How to Get to Playa de Hellinika

Getting to Playa de Hellinika on the island of Evia, Greece, is part of the adventure. Given its location on the somewhat remote east coast, the most practical means of transport is by car. We always advise renting a vehicle to have the freedom to explore the beach and its charming surroundings.

From Chalkida

If you are starting from Chalkida, the capital of Evia, the journey to Playa de Hellinika will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. You should head east, following signs towards Kymi or Aliveri, and then turn off towards the east coast. It is essential to have a GPS or an updated map, as signage can be limited in some rural areas.

From Athens

For those arriving from Athens, the trip includes a road journey to Chalkida (approximately 1 hour) crossing the famous bridge. Once in Chalkida, you will follow the aforementioned route. The total journey from Athens can range from 2.5 to 3 hours, making it an excellent option for a day trip or a longer stay. Roads in Greece can be narrow and winding in mountainous areas, so caution is key.

Public Transport

Although there are intercity buses (KTEL) connecting Chalkida with the main towns of Evia, getting directly to Playa de Hellinika by public transport is considerably more complicated. You will most likely need to take a bus to a nearby village and then a taxi. For this reason, we insist that a private or rental car is the best option to fully enjoy the flexibility and comfort this destination deserves.
