How to Get to Playa de Polemi

Getting to Playa de Polemi is part of the adventure and rewards us with the feeling of having discovered something special. Located in the southwestern part of the island of Kos, access requires renting a car or a motorbike, as public transport is limited, which contributes to its exclusive atmosphere.

From the capital, Kos Town, the drive takes approximately 45-50 minutes. We will take the main road southwest, towards Kefalos. We will watch for signs towards Polemi or the 'Polemi Restaurant', a good reference point. The road is mostly paved, but the last stretches may be dirt tracks. From Kos International Airport (KGS), the journey is shorter, about 25-30 minutes, heading west. The beauty of the landscape during the journey, with olive groves and views of the Aegean Sea, makes the trip a pleasure in itself. It's an opportunity to explore the island and discover other charms of the Greece beaches.

The Sand and Water

Upon setting foot on Playa de Polemi, the first thing that captivates us is the quality of its sand. It is fine and golden sand, incredibly soft to the touch, inviting us to take off our shoes and enjoy every step. It's the kind of sand that warms pleasantly under the Mediterranean sun, perfect for spreading out our towel and relaxing for hours. Unlike other Kos beaches that may have pebbles, Polemi offers us a uniform and comfortable surface, ideal for children to play and build sandcastles.

But the true star of Playa de Polemi is, without a doubt, its water. The waters are of astonishing clarity, with shades ranging from pale turquoise to a deeper blue. They are remarkably calm and shallow in the first few meters, making them a paradise for families with young children and for those who simply want a relaxing swim without worries. The absence of strong currents or large waves is a distinctive feature of this Kos beach. The transparency of the water allows us to see the sandy bottom with total clarity, ideal for light snorkeling.

Services and Facilities

Playa de Polemi is distinguished by its more natural and less developed character. This means we should not expect a wide range of tourist services and facilities found on more crowded beaches. Its charm lies precisely in that lack of mass tourism, which attracts us to this place and makes it such a special refuge among the Greece beaches.

Regarding basic services, the beach has an informal Parking area, which facilitates access for those arriving by private vehicle. It is not an organized parking lot, but a space set up along the road or in the vicinity. Furthermore, nearby, there is usually at least one Chiringuito or a small local taverna. These establishments offer us the opportunity to enjoy a refreshing drink or a snack. Often, these chiringuitos also have some sunbeds and umbrellas available for rent. However, their number is limited, so if we plan to go during high season, it may be a good idea to bring our own umbrella and towels. The absence of lifeguards, public showers, or permanent toilets is something to consider, so we recommend bringing our own provisions.

Best Time to Visit

Choosing the right time to visit Playa de Polemi can make a big difference in our experience, as the island of Kos has a Mediterranean climate. We consider that there are certain times that are ideal for fully enjoying the serenity and beauty of this Kos beach.

Spring (April - May)

Spring is one of the best times. The weather is mild and pleasant (20-25°C), perfect for sunbathing. The island is in bloom and Playa de Polemi will be much less crowded, allowing us to enjoy its tranquility. The waters may be a bit cool at first, but as May progresses, they are suitable for swimming.

Early Summer (June)

June is another excellent month. Temperatures are already warm (over 25°C) and the sea water is at an ideal temperature. We still avoid the crowds of July and August, enjoying Playa de Polemi with a relaxed and spacious atmosphere. It's the perfect balance between good weather and low visitor numbers, ideal for relaxation.

Late Summer (September - Early October)

If we prefer the heat and warmer waters, late summer and early autumn are fantastic. September maintains pleasant summer temperatures and the sea is very warm. The crowds diminish, returning tranquility to Playa de Polemi. October can still offer sunny and warm days. We advise against July and August.
