How to Get to Playa de Liapades

Getting to Playa de Liapades is part of the adventure, and fortunately, it's quite accessible. From the city of Corfu, where the main airport and port are located, we have several options. The distance is approximately 20 kilometers to the northwest, and the journey usually takes between 30 and 45 minutes, depending on traffic and the mode of transport we choose.

By Car

By renting a car, which is our preferred option for exploring the island at our own pace, we will take the main road heading northwest. The signage to Liapades is clear. Once in the village of Liapades, we follow the signs to the main beach, known as Gefyra. There are several parking areas available, some paid and others free, especially near the restaurants and chiringuitos. It's important to consider that the roads can be narrow and winding near the beach, so caution is key.

By Bus

For those who prefer public transport, there are green buses (KTEL Corfu) connecting the city of Corfu with Liapades. The bus station is located near the port of Corfu. Schedules can vary depending on the season, so we recommend checking them in advance. The bus will drop us off in the village of Liapades, and from there, the main beach (Gefyra) is about a 10-15 minute walk downhill. For the more remote coves, we might need to take a water taxi from Gefyra.

By Taxi

A taxi is a comfortable, though more expensive, option. We can easily find taxis at the airport, the port, or in the city of Corfu. It's advisable to agree on the price with the driver before starting the trip.

The Sand and Water

One of the most distinctive features of Playa de Liapades is its particular composition. Don't expect a vast expanse of fine golden sand, like on other beaches in Corfu. Here, the main Gefyra beach and its adjacent coves are composed of a charming mix of pebbles and sand. The pebbles are small and smooth, making them comfortable to walk on, although we always recommend wearing appropriate water shoes for greater comfort, especially for children.

The color of the seabed, between white and light gray, is what contributes to the incredible transparency of the water. The waters of Liapades are simply spectacular. Their hue ranges from the most vibrant turquoise blue to deep emerald, and their clarity is such that we can see the seabed with astonishing ease. This makes it a paradise for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts, as marine life is abundant and fascinating. The water temperature, especially during the summer months (from June to September), is very pleasant, inviting long, refreshing swims.

In addition to the main beach, from Liapades we can access other stunning coves, many of them only accessible by boat or on foot via trails. Rovinia Cove, Paradise Beach (also known as Chomi), and Limni Beach are just some of the hidden gems awaiting us, all with the same pristine water quality and an even wilder, more tranquil atmosphere. The experience of exploring these small beaches in Greece is unforgettable.

Playa de Liapades (Gefyra) is a well-organized beach that offers an excellent range of services to ensure a comfortable and pleasant stay for all its visitors. Despite its natural and relaxed atmosphere, it doesn't lack the necessary amenities for a perfect beach day.

On the main beach, we will find:

• Sunbeds and Umbrellas: There are ample areas where we can rent umbrellas and comfortable sunbeds to protect ourselves from the sun and enjoy the sea breeze. This is especially useful during the summer months, when the Greek sun can be intense.
• Chiringuitos and Restaurants: Several chiringuitos and traditional tavernas line the beach, offering a delicious variety of local and international food, as well as refreshing drinks and coffees. They are perfect for a light lunch or a dinner with sunset views.
• Showers and Toilets/WC: Shower facilities are available to rinse off salt and sand after a swim, as well as clean and accessible toilets.
• Lifeguards: During the high season, the beach has lifeguards who watch over the safety of swimmers, providing us with additional peace of mind, especially if we visit the beach with children.
