How to Get to Playa de Loutraki

Getting to Playa de Loutraki is relatively straightforward, which adds to its appeal as an accessible destination within the Akrotiri peninsula. We recommend several options, depending on your preferences and starting point.

From Chania City

If you are in the center of Chania, the most comfortable way to get there is by car. The journey takes approximately 20-25 minutes, covering a distance of about 15-18 kilometers. The road is well-signposted and in good condition. You simply need to take the road towards Chania Airport (CHQ) and, before reaching it, follow the signs towards the Akrotiri peninsula and, finally, towards Loutraki. By renting a car, you'll also have the freedom to explore other Chania (Crete) beaches and the charms of the area.

From Chania International Airport (CHQ)

Playa de Loutraki is very close to the airport, only about 8-10 kilometers away. If you have just landed, you can take a taxi directly to the beach or to your nearby accommodation. The taxi ride will take about 10-15 minutes. Another option is to rent a car directly at the airport, which is highly recommended if you plan to move around the island during your stay. The signage from the airport to Loutraki is clear, making the journey very easy.

Public Transport

Although a car is the most flexible option, it is possible to reach Loutraki by bus. However, routes and frequencies can vary, especially outside the high season. You would need to take a bus from the central station in Chania towards the Akrotiri peninsula, and you might need a taxi for the final leg from the nearest bus stop to the beach. We always advise checking the updated schedules with the local bus station (KTEL Chania) if you choose this route. During the summer, some lines may have more direct routes to the most popular Greece beaches.

Parking

One of the advantages of Playa de Loutraki is that it has a parking area, although in high season it can fill up quickly. It is advisable to arrive early in the morning to secure a good spot, especially if you visit the beach in July or August.
