How to Get to Playa de Antisamos

Getting to Playa de Antisamos is part of the adventure and, fortunately, quite simple. The beach is conveniently located about 4 kilometers southeast of the port village of Sami, one of the most important centers on the island of Cefalonia. We always advise renting a car to explore the island thoroughly, and for Antisamos, this is undoubtedly the most comfortable and practical option.

By Car

If you choose a car, the route from Sami is short and scenic. Simply follow the signs that will take you along a winding, but well-paved, road descending towards the coast. The views during the journey are spectacular, with the Ionian Sea shining on one side and the lush vegetation of the hills on the other. There is a large free parking area right behind the beach, which makes visiting very easy. We have never had trouble finding a spot, even in high season, although it is always better to arrive early if you want to secure a good spot.

By Taxi

From Sami or nearby villages like Agia Efimia, you can take a taxi. It is a quick and comfortable option, especially if you don't want to worry about parking. The journey from Sami is very short, just 5-10 minutes, and the price is reasonable.

By Bus

During the summer high season, local buses usually operate connecting Sami with Playa de Antisamos. However, the frequency may not be very high, so we recommend checking the updated schedules at the Sami bus station or your accommodation. It is a more economical option, but it will give you less flexibility.

By Boat

For the more adventurous, or if you simply want to enjoy a different perspective, there are boat tours departing from Sami and Agia Efimia that often include a stop at Antisamos. This is an excellent way to see the coast and enjoy a day of sailing, combining the beach visit with other nearby coves that are difficult to access by land.

The Sand and Water

When we talk about Playa de Antisamos, one of the first details that captures our attention is its unique composition. Unlike many Cefalonia beaches that boast golden sand, Antisamos stands out for its smooth white pebbles. We, at first, might have expected fine sand, but the reality of the pebbles is a pleasant surprise. They are small stones, polished by the sea over the centuries, that don't stick to the skin like sand and are, surprisingly, quite comfortable for walking and lying on, especially if you use a thick towel or a mat. To comply with categorization, we could say it is a beach of 'mixed sand type' due to the variety of sizes in its pebbles, but its 'ground type' is clearly 'pebble'.

The experience of entering the water is, for us, the highlight. The waters of Antisamos are famous for their exceptional clarity and vibrant turquoise color. It is like swimming in a natural pool. The underwater visibility is astonishing, making it a paradise for snorkeling lovers. You will be able to observe small fish swimming among the rocks and marine vegetation with incredible ease. The water temperature, especially during the summer months, is delightful, refreshing but not cold, perfect for spending hours swimming and splashing.

The seabed descends gently at first, making it ideal for families with young children, but then becomes deeper, allowing for comfortable swimming in more open waters. We always enjoy the feeling of the pebbles under our feet as we venture into the sea, a different experience from sand that gives this Cefalonia beach a unique touch. The combination of the white pebbles, crystal-clear water, and the lush vegetation that reaches almost to the shore creates a color contrast that is simply unforgettable and makes it one of the most photogenic Greece beaches we have visited.
