If there is one place in Greece that encapsulates the essence of a Mediterranean paradise, it is undoubtedly Playa de Diakofti on the wonderful island of Karpathos. From the moment we set foot on its sand, we are transported to a world of serenity and unparalleled beauty. This beach, often described as one of the most spectacular of the Karpathos beaches, is a true hidden treasure that invites us to disconnect and immerse ourselves in the magic of the Aegean.

What makes Diakofti such a special experience is the perfect combination of its shallow, almost unreal turquoise-blue waters, contrasting with the fine white sand that gently extends into the sea. How to Get to Playa de Diakofti

Getting to Playa de Diakofti is part of the adventure and, fortunately, it is quite accessible. The beach is located very close to Karpathos Airport (AOK), making it a fantastic option for those who want to immerse themselves in the island's beauty shortly after landing. We, like many visitors, usually fly directly to Karpathos from Athens or from some European cities during the high season. Once at the airport, Diakofti is only about a five-minute drive away, which is incredibly convenient.

Transportation Options

• Rental Car: This is, by far, the option we most recommend. Renting a car gives us the freedom to explore not only Diakofti but also the rest of the stunning Karpathos beaches and the island's charming villages at our own pace. There are several car rental agencies at the airport and in Pigadia, the capital. The road to Diakofti is paved and in good condition, making the journey easy.
• Taxi: For those who prefer not to drive, a taxi from the airport or from Pigadia is a comfortable alternative. Prices are reasonable, especially if sharing the ride. However, for exploring the island in depth, a car remains our primary choice.
• Bus: Although there are some bus routes in Karpathos, there is no direct and frequent service to Diakofti. We would have to rely on connections or walk considerable distances, which is not the most practical if we are carrying luggage or with children. Therefore, if we are looking for comfort and flexibility, the bus is not the best option to reach this Karpathos beach.

The Sand and the Water

If we had to describe Playa de Diakofti with a single image, it would be that of a canvas where the purest white merges with the most vibrant blue. The sand here is simply spectacular: immaculately white, incredibly fine and soft to the touch, almost like talcum powder. It's the kind of sand that invites you to walk barefoot for hours, to build sandcastles with the little ones, or simply to lie down and feel its warmth under the Aegean sun. We are always amazed by the purity of this ground, so different from other rocky beaches we have visited.

But if the sand is impressive, the water is, in a word, sublime. The waters of Diakofti are of astonishing clarity, with shades ranging from the lightest aquamarine to a deep turquoise, depending on the sunlight and depth. They are extraordinarily calm and shallow waters, making them perfect for families with young children, who can splash and play in complete safety. We, snorkeling enthusiasts, have enjoyed observing marine life near its shores, although the main attraction is simply immersing oneself in its freshness and letting oneself be enveloped by its beauty. The water temperature is ideal during the summer months, providing a refreshing relief from the heat. It is, without a doubt, one of the most pleasant aquatic experiences we have had on the Greece beaches.

Despite its relaxed atmosphere and natural beauty, Playa de Diakofti does not lack the essential services that make our stay comfortable and pleasant. We always appreciate when a beach achieves a balance between the wild and the convenient, and Diakofti masters this perfectly. Don't expect large resorts or massive infrastructure, but just what is necessary to enjoy without worries.

• Sunbeds and Umbrellas: For those seeking maximum comfort, there are areas where we can rent umbrellas and comfortable sunbeds. This is ideal for protecting ourselves from the most intense sun during the midday hours and enjoying a good book or a restorative nap. We always appreciate having this option, especially on the hottest days.
• Chiringuitos: Diakofti has at least one chiringuito or small taverna right on the beach. Here we can enjoy refreshing drinks, coffees, light snacks, and often simple dishes of delicious Greek cuisine. It's the perfect place to recharge and enjoy the sea views. We always delight in a frappé coffee or a cold Mythos beer while admiring the landscape.
• Parking: Given its proximity to the airport and the ease of access by car, the beach has a parking area, usually free of charge, which is a great advantage. This allows us to arrive comfortably with all our beach gear without worrying about finding a spot.
