How to Get to Playa de Dragonera

Getting to Playa de Dragonera is part of Angistri's charm. Our journey begins at the port of Piraeus, Athens, taking a ferry or 'flying dolphin' that takes us to Angistri in 50-90 minutes. Once on the island, we disembark at Skala or Milos (Megalochori), the main ports. From there, Playa de Dragonera is accessible. Many of us opt to rent a scooter or a bicycle. There is also a local bus service. For the more adventurous, a 20-30 minute walk from Milos rewards us with charming landscapes. Dragonera is divided into two coves: Megali Dragonera (the Large) and Mikro Dragonera (the Small), both captivating.

The Shore and the Water

One of the most distinctive features of Playa de Dragonera is its shore. Here we won't find fine sand, but smooth, sea-polished pebbles. These pebbles, of various sizes, create a natural mosaic that gives the beach a unique character and rustic beauty. We quickly get used to their feel and appreciate it, as it prevents sand from sticking to everything.

But if the pebbles are the canvas, the water is the masterpiece. The waters of Playa de Dragonera are of a transparency and turquoise color that take our breath away. They are incredibly crystal-clear, allowing us to see the seabed with amazing clarity, ideal for snorkeling. The entry into the sea is generally gentle. The water temperature, especially in summer, is perfect for a refreshing swim. It is, without a doubt, one of the purest waters we have enjoyed on the beaches of Greece.

Best Time to Visit

Choosing the best time to visit Playa de Dragonera depends on our preferences.

• Spring (May - Early June): Ideal. Pleasant temperatures, sun without being scorching, island in bloom. Moderate crowds, allowing enjoyment of tranquility. Water already warm for swimming.
• Summer (Mid-June - August): High season. Warm and sunny weather, but with more visitors, especially on weekends. If we're looking for a lively atmosphere, it's a good option.
• Autumn (September - October): Fantastic. The summer crowds have disappeared, pleasant temperatures and sea water still warm. Perfect for those seeking peace and tranquility without crowds.

Activities and Sports

Playa de Dragonera, with its serene atmosphere and crystal-clear waters, is perfect for relaxation and gentle adventure activities. It's not a bustling water sports center, but it offers opportunities to enjoy the sea and nature.

• Swimming: Calm and clear waters, ideal for a good dip.
• Snorkeling: Essential. The water transparency and pebble seabed create a habitat for small fish.
• Sunbathing and relaxing: The star activity. Reading, listening to music, or simply closing our eyes and enjoying the sound of the waves.
