How to Get to Playa de Akoli

Getting to Playa de Akoli is a fundamental part of the adventure and, fortunately, it is quite accessible, especially if we are traveling by car. Being in the Peloponnese, it enjoys good road connections. We always recommend renting a vehicle, as it gives us the freedom to explore not only the beach but also the charming surroundings this region of Greece has to offer.

From Patras

If we arrive in Greece via Araxos Airport (near Patras), or if we are simply in the city of Patras, the journey to Akoli is relatively short and simple. We should take the national road E65 towards Corinth/Athens. Playa de Akoli is located about 30-40 kilometers east of Patras, near the city of Aigio. The drive usually takes between 30 and 45 minutes, depending on traffic. The signs are clear and the coastal landscape that accompanies us during the journey is a delight for the eyes.

From Athens

For those landing at Athens International Airport (Eleftherios Venizelos), the journey is a bit longer, but equally straightforward. We will take the A8/E94 highway towards Corinth and then continue on the E65 towards Patras. Akoli is located before reaching Patras, shortly after passing Aigio. The trip from Athens usually takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes to 3 hours, depending on stops and traffic. It is a comfortable journey, with good road infrastructure that allows us to enjoy the landscape along the coast of the Gulf of Corinth.

Public Transport

Although the car is the most convenient option, it is also possible to reach Akoli using public transport, albeit with some limitations. We can take an intercity bus (KTEL) from Patras or Athens to Aigio. Once in Aigio, we will need to find a local taxi or a bus to take us to Playa de Akoli, as the frequency and routes may not be as direct to the very shore. We, for greater comfort and flexibility, always opt for car rental, especially if we plan to explore the area thoroughly.

They are crystal-clear waters, of an intense turquoise color that invites us to dive in without a second thought. The entry into the sea is gentle and gradual, making it ideal for all ages, especially for the little ones. The absence of strong currents and the calm that usually reigns in this part of the Gulf of Corinth make Akoli a perfect place for swimming, floating, and simply enjoying the freshness of the Aegean. The underwater visibility is fantastic, allowing us to observe the seabed and, with a bit of luck, the marine life that inhabits its depths, even without specialized snorkeling gear.
