It's the perfect place to disconnect, whether alone, as a couple, or especially with the whole family.

We've visited it on several occasions and have always been surprised by its relaxed atmosphere and excellent maintenance. It's a beach that invites long walks along the shore, enjoying a refreshing dip in its calm waters, or simply lying under the sun and forgetting about the clock. How to Get to Playa de Massamagrell

Getting to Playa de Massamagrell is quite straightforward, which is a plus for any getaway. We always value easy access, and this beach delivers in spades. Here are the main options:

By Car

It is, without a doubt, the most comfortable option for most people. From the city of Valencia, the journey is about 15-20 kilometers to the north. Simply take the V-21 towards Sagunto/Castellón and then the exit for Massamagrell. Once in the municipality, the signs to the beach are clear. There are parking areas nearby, both free and paid during high season, which makes visiting very easy. We've never had major problems parking, even on busier days.

By Public Transport

If you prefer public transport, it's also a viable option, although it requires some connections. You can take Metrovalencia line 3 to Massamagrell station. From there, you'll need to take a local bus or a taxi to get directly to the beach, as the distance from the town center to the coast is about 3-4 kilometers. It's a good alternative if you don't want to worry about parking or simply want to enjoy the scenery without driving.

By Bicycle

For cycling enthusiasts, Playa de Massamagrell is accessible via bike lanes connecting to the Horta Nord network. It's a pleasant and flat ride, ideal for enjoying the Mediterranean climate and the orange groves surrounding the area. We've done this route a few times and it's a fantastic way to arrive, feel the sea breeze, and get a bit of exercise before the swim.

The Sand and Water

One of the biggest attractions of Playa de Massamagrell is certainly its fine, golden sand. For us, there's nothing like feeling that soft sand underfoot while walking barefoot along the shore. It's perfect for building sandcastles with the little ones or simply for spreading out a towel and enjoying a sunny day without discomfort. The cleanliness of the sand is something that always catches our attention; you can see the care and constant maintenance.

As for the water, the waters of Playa de Massamagrell are generally very calm and shallow near the shore, making them ideal for children and elderly swimmers. The absence of big waves contributes to that feeling of serenity we love so much. The water color is the typical Mediterranean blue, and its temperature is very pleasant during the summer months, inviting long, refreshing swims. The water quality is usually excellent, a key factor for this beach to receive the prestigious Blue Flag year after year, a distinction that for us is synonymous with guarantee and trust.

• Accessibility: While it doesn't have 'full accessibility' in the broadest sense (like permanent amphibious chairs), it does have wooden walkways that facilitate access to the sand for people with reduced mobility and baby strollers, as well as adapted restrooms. Best Time to Visit

Playa de Massamagrell is a destination that can be enjoyed for much of the year, but for us, there are specific times when it shines brightest:

Summer (June, July, August)

Undoubtedly, this is the busiest time and when the beach is at its peak in terms of services. The weather is warm, the waters are temperate, and all facilities (lifeguards, chiringuitos, rentals) are in full operation. If you're looking for the most lively atmosphere and all the comforts, summer is your season. We do, however, recommend going early in the morning or late afternoon to avoid peak hours and find a better spot.

Spring (April, May) and Early Autumn (September, October)

For us, these are the ideal seasons if you're looking for tranquility and equally pleasant weather, but with fewer people. The days are sunny, the temperature is perfect for walking along the shore or sunbathing, and the water is warm enough for a swim. It's the perfect time for those who prefer calm and peace, and to enjoy the beach in its most serene version. Also, accommodation and service prices are usually more affordable.

Winter (November - March)

Although swimming may not be the main activity, Playa de Massamagrell remains a charming place for walks and enjoying the outdoors. We've walked along the promenade in winter and it's a very revitalizing experience. The winter sun in Valencia is very pleasant and the landscape is equally beautiful, albeit with a more solitary and melancholic atmosphere.

Activities and Sports

Playa de Massamagrell is a place that primarily invites relaxation, but it also offers some options for those seeking a bit of activity. We always try to combine rest with a little adventure, and here we find some possibilities:

• Swimming and Snorkeling: The calm waters are perfect for comfortable swimming. Although it's not a snorkeling paradise due to the absence of reefs, on days with good visibility you can enjoy a swim exploring the seabed near the shore.
• Walks Along the Shore: The extensive coastline of fine sand is ideal for long walks. For us, walking barefoot along the shore, feeling the sea breeze, is one of the best anti-stress therapies.
• Beach Volleyball: Often, especially in summer, you'll see groups of people playing beach volleyball. If you feel like it, it's an excellent way to socialize and exercise.
• Beach Sports: Beach soccer, paddle ball... The width of the beach allows for practicing various beach sports without disturbing other bathers.
• Running and Cycling: The promenade bordering the beach is perfect for running or cycling, enjoying the sea views. We often see many athletes taking advantage of this space.
• Recreational Fishing: In designated areas and outside the bathing season, some enthusiasts practice recreational fishing. It's always interesting to see them with their rods, enjoying the calm of the sea.

For Families with Children

If there's one category where Playa de Massamagrell excels with top marks, it's family-friendly. For us, it's an almost perfect destination to go with children, and we say this from personal experience. Here's why:

• Calm and Shallow Waters: This is perhaps the most important point. The waves are usually minimal, and the water depth increases very gradually, allowing the little ones to play safely at the water's edge. We can relax a bit more knowing they are in a safe environment.
• Fine and Clean Sand: Ideal for building castles, making shapes, or simply playing with shovels and buckets. The sand at Playa de Massamagrell has no rocks or pebbles that could bother or hurt children's feet.

The location of Playa de Massamagrell in the Horta Nord region allows us to explore a wide variety of interesting places without having to travel far. We always take the opportunity to do some sightseeing when we visit the area. Here are some suggestions:

Port Saplaya: The 'Little Venice'

A few kilometers south of Massamagrell is Port Saplaya, a coastal development known as Valencia's 'Little Venice' for its colorful buildings and navigable canals. It's a beautiful place for a walk, having a drink on its terraces, or simply admiring the boats. For us, it's a must-visit for its unique charm and relaxed atmosphere.

Valencia City

The capital, Valencia, is only about 15-20 minutes away by car. It offers a multitude of cultural, gastronomic, and leisure plans. You can visit the City of Arts and Sciences, stroll through the historic center with its Cathedral and Silk Exchange, or enjoy the gastronomy at the Central Market. We always recommend dedicating at least one day to exploring this wonderful city.

Albufera Natural Park

A bit further south of Valencia, you'll find the Albufera Natural Park, a wetland of great ecological and landscape value. It's famous for its spectacular sunsets and for being the birthplace of paella. You can take a boat ride on the lagoon, observe birds, or taste an authentic Valencian paella in El Palmar. For us, it's a very authentic and different experience from the beach.

Sagunto

To the north, about 20-25 minutes away, is Sagunto, a city with impressive historical heritage. You can visit its Roman Theater, Castle, and Jewish Quarter. It's a journey into the past that is well worth it if you like history and archaeology.

La Horta Nord

Don't forget to explore the towns and landscapes of Horta Nord itself, with its orange groves and tiger nut fields. You can visit a traditional farmhouse or try authentic horchata with fartons at a local horchatería. It's a rural and gastronomic experience we really enjoy.
