How to Get to Playa de Almardà

Getting to Playa de Almardà is relatively straightforward, making it an accessible destination for most visitors. We always advise planning the trip, especially if visiting during high season, to ensure a hassle-free experience.

By Car

For us, the car is the most comfortable and flexible option for reaching Almardà. The beach is well-connected by road. If you're coming from Valencia city, you can take the V-21 and then the A-7 towards Castellón, turning off towards Sagunto. From Sagunto or Puerto de Sagunto, the signs are clear and will guide you directly to the beach area. The journey time from Valencia is approximately 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic.

Once in the beach area, you'll find several free parking zones, although in the summer months it can be a bit more difficult to find a free spot, so we recommend arriving early. There are designated parking areas on adjacent streets and some open spaces set up for parking.

By Public Transport

If you prefer public transport, there are options, although with less frequency than by car. From Valencia, you can take a commuter train (line C-6) to Sagunto station. From there, you'll need to take a local bus or a taxi to Playa de Almardà. The intercity bus line connecting Sagunto with its beaches can be a good alternative, but schedules vary and it's advisable to check them in advance. For greater comfort, we still lean towards using our own vehicle or a taxi if coming from the train station.

The Sand and Water

The Sand: A Mix of Textures

Although it's not the typical fine, golden sand that covers some of the most famous beaches, this particularity gives it a rustic and natural charm. The entry into the sea is gentle and gradual, making it very safe for all ages, from the youngest to the oldest. We always value water cleanliness, and at Almardà, thanks in part to its sand and gravel composition and the absence of large nearby ports, the water quality is usually excellent, a fact supported by the constant presence of the Blue Flag, a distinction for environmental quality and services.

For us, as experienced travelers, each season has its particular charm at Playa de Almardà, but there are times that stand out more depending on what you're looking for in your visit.

Summer (June to September)

Undoubtedly, summer is the quintessential time to fully enjoy the beach and swimming. Temperatures are warm, the sun shines intensely, and the sea is at its ideal point for a dip. It's when all services are in full operation (lifeguards, chiringuitos, sun lounger rentals). However, it is also the time of highest attendance, so if you're looking for absolute tranquility, you might find more people. We recommend coming in June or early July, or already in September, to avoid the peak of August and enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere but with all the advantages of summer.

Spring (March to May) and Autumn (October to November)

For us, these are the secret seasons for lovers of tranquility and nature. Temperatures are mild and pleasant, perfect for long walks along the shore, observing the dunes, and enjoying the landscape without crowds. The sea may be a bit cool for prolonged swimming, but the atmosphere is idyllic for relaxation and photography. It's the ideal time for those seeking to connect with the essence of the beach and enjoy moments of peace. The chiringuitos may only be open on weekends or close from October onwards.

Winter (December to February)

Although swimming is not an option for most, winter in Almardà offers a different and moving landscape. The beach becomes wilder, with the wind sculpting the sand and the waves breaking with more force. It's an excellent time for photography lovers, for invigorating walks, and for feeling the power of the Mediterranean in its purest state. The tranquility is absolute, allowing us to reflect and recharge our energies.

• Swimming and bathing: The calm waters and gentle slope make it ideal for swimming and for children to play safely. We always enjoy a good dip in these crystal-clear waters.
• Paddle surfing and kayaking: On days with little wind, the bay is perfect for practicing paddle surfing or kayaking. Some chiringuitos or nearby companies may offer equipment rental.
• Snorkeling: Although it's not a snorkeling paradise like some rocky coves, the clarity of the water allows you to observe small fish and marine life close to the shore, especially in areas with a bit more gravel.

Activities on the Sand

• Walks along the shore: The length of the beach is ideal for taking long, relaxing walks, enjoying the sea breeze and the views. It's one of our favorite activities for disconnecting.

• Castle and Roman Theatre: Just a few minutes' drive from the beach is the city of Sagunto, a place with impressive history. Its imposing Castle of Sagunto, with its cyclopean walls and Iberian, Roman, and Arab remains, is a must-visit. Just below the castle, the Roman Theatre of Sagunto is an architectural gem that still hosts performances and cultural events. We feel transported back in time walking through its stands.
• Historic Quarter: Strolling through the narrow streets of Sagunto's old town is a delight. Discover the Jewish Quarter, the Church of Santa María, and the Main Square, and let the atmosphere envelop you.
