How to Get to Playa de San Telmo

Getting to Playa de San Telmo is, in itself, part of the experience, as it is located in a very accessible part of Puerto de la Cruz. Its central location makes access extremely easy, whether we are coming from other parts of the island or from our accommodation in the municipality itself.

By Car

If we choose to drive, we must head to the center of Puerto de la Cruz. The beach is very well signposted and is part of the promenade route. Finding parking nearby can be a challenge, especially in high season, as the streets are narrow and space is limited. However, there are paid public car parks relatively close by, such as Parking El Muelle or Parking Plaza Europa, from where we can walk in a few minutes. We always recommend arriving early to secure a good spot and avoid frustration.

By Public Transport

Puerto de la Cruz has an excellent public transport network. Several TITSA bus lines connect the municipality with other towns in Tenerife, such as Santa Cruz, La Laguna or the North Airport. The Puerto de la Cruz bus station is about a 15-20 minute walk from Playa de San Telmo. From the station, we can take a taxi or simply enjoy a pleasant walk through the city center until we reach our coastal destination.

On Foot

For many, the best way to get to Playa de San Telmo is simply by walking. If we are staying in the center of Puerto de la Cruz or its surroundings, a walk along the coast or through the picturesque streets of the old town will take us directly to this enclave. The route is flat and very pleasant, passing by shops, restaurants and other points of interest that make the walk part of the adventure. It is an excellent way to soak up the local atmosphere before immersing ourselves in the waters of San Telmo.

The Sand and Water

Playa de San Telmo offers a unique experience in terms of its composition. Do not expect the typical fine, golden sand associated with other Spanish beaches here. We are in Tenerife, an island of volcanic origin, and this is reflected in the character of its coastline. In some areas, especially in the smaller coves, rocks and stones predominate, creating a wilder and more natural landscape.

We love this diversity, as each corner offers a different perspective and a distinct place to sit or lie down. For those who prefer more comfort, it is always advisable to bring flip-flops or water shoes, especially if we plan to explore the rocky areas or the natural pools, where the bottom can be uneven.

As for the water, it is one of the great attractions of San Telmo. The natural pools, formed by the volcanic orography itself and protected from the strongest waves, offer generally calm and crystal-clear waters. They are perfect for a relaxing swim, even when the open sea shows its wilder character. The water temperature in Tenerife is pleasant all year round, allowing us to enjoy a dip in any season. The water quality is usually excellent, inviting us to dive in and enjoy the serenity these pools offer, a true luxury in the heart of the urban center.
