How to Get to Playa de la Riumar

Getting to Playa de la Riumar is relatively straightforward, although we always recommend a car for greater comfort and to explore the surrounding Ebro Delta area. From cities like Tarragona, the journey takes about an hour via the AP-7 to exit 39A (L'Aldea-Tortosa-Deltebre) and then following signs to Deltebre and, subsequently, Riumar. From Barcelona, the trip can take around two hours, also via the AP-7. For those coming from Valencia, the route is similar, taking the AP-7 northbound.

Once in Deltebre, the signage to Riumar is clear. The beach has free parking areas, which greatly facilitates access. It's important to remember that we are in a protected natural environment, so we must respect the signage and avoid parking outside designated areas. Access to the beach from the parking lot is comfortable, with wooden walkways that help us cross the dunes without damaging them and lead us directly to the shore. It's an experience that begins even before setting foot on the sand, as we traverse that characteristic dune landscape.

The Sand and Water

If there's something we love about Playa de la Riumar, it's undoubtedly its sand. It's fine and soft sand, with a golden tone that shines under the Mediterranean sun. Walking on it is a delight, and children enjoy building sandcastles or simply playing by the shore. Being so extensive, we always find a quiet spot to lay our towel and enjoy the sun without crowds, even during the busiest months.

As for the water, Riumar's waters are calm and shallow, especially near the shore, making them ideal for children's bathing and for those seeking a relaxing dip. The entry into the sea is gentle and gradual, without sudden drops. Sometimes, due to the proximity of the Ebro river mouth, the water may have a slightly cloudy hue, but this is completely natural and does not affect its quality, which is guaranteed by the presence of the Blue Flag, a symbol of environmental and service excellence that gives us great confidence. The water temperature is usually pleasant during the summer months, inviting us to enjoy long swims.

Services and Facilities

Playa de la Riumar, despite its natural character, is well-equipped with services that make our visit much more comfortable and enjoyable. We greatly appreciate that, without losing its wild essence, it offers the necessary amenities. Among the services we find, the following stand out:

• Lifeguards: During the high season, the beach has lifeguard services, which gives us great peace of mind, especially if we're with children.
• Showers and Restrooms/WC: Essential for freshening up and cleaning after a day at the beach.
• Chiringuitos (Beach Bars): Several chiringuitos are distributed along the beach, where we can enjoy a cold drink, an ice cream, or even a light meal with sea views. They're perfect for taking a break and sheltering from the sun.
• Sun Umbrellas and Loungers: In some sections, it's possible to rent sun umbrellas and loungers, although many of us prefer to bring our own for greater freedom.
• Parking: As mentioned, there are ample free parking areas near the beach access points.
• Full Accessibility: The beach has wooden walkways that facilitate access for people with reduced mobility to the sand and, at some points, to the water's edge, making Riumar an inclusive beach for everyone.
• Children's Area: There are small play areas for the little ones near the chiringuitos, which perfectly complement a beach day for families.

Best Time to Visit

For us, Playa de la Riumar is a destination that can be enjoyed at different times of the year, each with its particular charm. If our main goal is swimming and sunbathing, the summer months (June, July, and August) are, obviously, ideal. The temperatures are warm, the water is perfect, and all services are fully operational. However, it's also the busiest period, although due to its size, it never feels overcrowded.

If we prefer tranquility and want to enjoy nature in its purest state, spring (April, May) and early autumn (September, October) are, in our opinion, the best times.
