We're talking about Playa de la Punta del Riu, located in the municipality of Vandellòs i l'Hospitalet de l'Infant, in the beautiful province of Tarragona. This beach is, in our opinion, a true oasis of calm and comfort, a place where the Mediterranean shows its kindest and most welcoming side.

What makes Playa de la Punta del Riu special is its strategic location, right at the mouth of the Llastres River. This geographical feature not only gives it a unique landscape but also contributes to the tranquility of its waters, making it a favorite destination for families with young children and for those seeking to escape the daily hustle and bustle. Here, the sound of the waves mixes with the gentle murmur of the river, creating a natural symphony that invites absolute relaxation. How to Get to Playa de la Punta del Riu

Getting to Playa de la Punta del Riu is relatively easy, as Vandellòs i l'Hospitalet de l'Infant has good connections. If we come by car from Barcelona or Valencia, the fastest option is to take the AP-7 highway and exit at exit 38 (L'Hospitalet de l'Infant – Vandellòs). From there, the beach is just a few minutes away by following the signs to the urban center of L'Hospitalet de l'Infant and, specifically, to the area of the Llastres River mouth. We can also choose the national road N-340, which runs parallel to the coast and offers more picturesque landscapes, although the journey may be a bit slower.

By Car

For us, the car is the most comfortable option to get to Playa de la Punta del Riu, as it allows us to bring all the necessary luggage for a day at the beach and explore the surroundings with total freedom. Once in L'Hospitalet de l'Infant, the beach is well signposted. You'll find several parking areas nearby, some of them free, especially on the streets adjacent to the promenade and near the river mouth. During the summer months, especially in August, we might have to circle around a bit to find a spot, but availability is usually reasonable.

By Public Transport

If we prefer public transport, the L'Hospitalet de l'Infant train station is an excellent option. It's on the Renfe commuter line and has connections to Tarragona, Reus, and other important cities. From the station, Playa de la Punta del Riu is a short distance away, approximately a 15-20 minute walk along the promenade. There are also intercity bus lines connecting the municipality with nearby towns, which makes access easier if we're staying in the area. It's a sustainable and relaxed way to reach this Vandellòs i l'Hospitalet de l'Infant beach.

The Sand and Water

One of the biggest attractions of Playa de la Punta del Riu is, without a doubt, its sand and waters. The sand is fine and golden, very pleasant to the touch and perfect for building sandcastles with the little ones or simply for laying out a towel and enjoying the sun. We won't find uncomfortable pebbles or rocks at the shoreline here, making it ideal for walking barefoot and for children to play without worries. It's a pleasure to feel that sand under our feet while walking along the Mediterranean shore.

The waters are another of its strong points. They are calm, crystal clear, and shallow, especially at the shore, making it a very safe beach for swimming. The natural protection offered by the Llastres River mouth, along with the breakwaters that delimit the beach, contribute to minimal waves, even on windy days. This is something we greatly appreciate, especially when we go with children or if we're simply looking for a relaxing swim without any surprises. The water temperature, especially in summer, is very pleasant, inviting long dips and enjoying the sea at a leisurely pace. It's no wonder this is one of the most appreciated Tarragona beaches for its serenity.
