How to Get to Playa de Calafat

Getting to Playa de Calafat is relatively straightforward, and the options vary depending on where we are and our transportation preferences. We always recommend planning the journey a little to ensure an arrival without setbacks and to be able to start enjoying the beach as soon as possible.

By Car

For most visitors, the car is the most comfortable and flexible option. The beach is located within the Calafat urbanization, in L'Ametlla de Mar. If we are coming from the north (for example, Barcelona or Tarragona city) or from the south (Valencia), the most direct way is to take the AP-7 motorway (or the A-7 highway, which in some sections runs parallel and is free). The most convenient exit is number 39, which takes us directly to L'Ametlla de Mar. Once in the town, we follow the signs towards the Calafat urbanization. The beach is well signposted within the urbanization. It is important to know that, although the urbanization is residential, there are usually free Parking areas near the beach, although in high season they can fill up quickly. We always advise arriving early to secure a good spot.

By Train

If we prefer not to drive, the train is an excellent alternative. The nearest train station is L'Ametlla de Mar, which is part of the R16 line of Rodalies de Catalunya, connecting with cities like Barcelona, Tarragona, and Valencia. Once at L'Ametlla de Mar station, Playa de Calafat is about 6-7 kilometers away. From there, we can opt for a taxi, which will drop us off right at the beach, or if we are adventurous and not carrying much luggage, we could consider a bike ride if we have rented one in the town. During the summer months, there are sometimes local bus services connecting the center of L'Ametlla with the coastal urbanizations, so it's a good idea to check the schedules at the local tourist office.

By Bus

Bus connections are less direct than by train or car. Normally, we would have to first get to L'Ametlla de Mar by bus from a nearby city (Tarragona, for example) and then follow the options mentioned above. However, for those staying in L'Ametlla de Mar or neighboring urbanizations, local bus services can be a good option for getting around the area without a car.

We always have the GPS on our phone activated with the exact coordinates (40.9238, 0.7937) so we don't get lost and can enjoy the scenery along the way. The road that winds along the coast to the urbanization is a visual appetizer of what awaits us, with views of coves and cliffs that already immerse us in the Mediterranean spirit.

Walking barefoot on it, we notice its softness under our feet, a very pleasant sensation that invites a stroll along the shore. We won't find the vast expanses of sand of other more crowded beaches here, but rather a more intimate cove, about 200 meters long, which gives it a more secluded and family-friendly atmosphere. This fine sand is perfect for children to build sandcastles without difficulty, and also for laying out our towel and enjoying a day in the sun without the discomfort of coarse sand or stones. It is the kind of sand that gently clings to the skin and comes off easily when shaken, a small detail we always appreciate.
