We venture into the heart of the Maritime-Terrestrial National Park of the Atlantic Islands of Galicia, and Playa de Figueiras is one of its most polished diamonds.

How to Get to Playa de Figueiras

Getting to this paradise requires a small adventure, but every step is worth it. The Cíes Islands are accessible only by ferry during the high season (summer, Easter, and long weekends). It is essential to book both the boat ticket and the visit authorization from the Xunta de Galicia in advance, as the daily capacity is limited to preserve its ecosystem.

Where to Depart From

We usually take the ferry from Vigo, Cangas, or Baiona. The crossing is already part of the experience, offering us spectacular views of the estuary and the Galician coast.

Disembarkation and the Path

Once we disembark at the Rodas pier on the Faro island, Playa de Figueiras is a short walk away. We simply follow the coastal path heading north, leaving the famous Playa de Rodas behind. The path is easy and well-signposted. In about 15-20 minutes of a leisurely walk, we will reach this naturist sanctuary. It is a journey that prepares us for the total disconnection awaiting us at this beach in Vigo (Cíes Islands).

The Sand and Water

Playa de Figueiras is a dream for the senses. We encounter dazzlingly white sand, so fine it slips through our fingers. This sandy bed, soft and clean, contrasts wonderfully with the deep blue of the ocean. The waters of Figueiras are, without a doubt, its greatest attraction: crystal clear, with an astonishing transparency that allows us to see the seabed. The turquoise hue, almost Caribbean on sunny days, invites us to dive in. However, the water is usually cool, even in mid-summer, a refreshing coolness that recharges our energy. The calm of its waters, protected by the shape of the bay, makes it a safe place to swim and enjoy without worries. It is a true privilege to be able to bathe in such a pure and pristine environment, where the human footprint is minimal.

Services and Facilities

It is essential to understand that Playa de Figueiras, being in a National Park and naturist, offers very limited services directly on the beach. This is part of its 'wild' charm.

On the Beach Itself

Directly on Playa de Figueiras, we will not find beach bars, umbrella rentals, or showers. The philosophy is minimal intervention. We recommend bringing our own towel, umbrella, and everything necessary for hydration and food, as there are no nearby points of sale.

Services on the Island (near Rodas)

• Bathrooms/WC: There are public toilets near the pier and at the campsite.
• Lifeguard Service: During the high season, the National Park has lifeguard service on the main beaches.
• Restaurants: Near the Rodas pier, there are a couple of restaurants and a cafeteria.
• Campsite: For those wishing to extend their stay.

Choosing the right time to visit Playa de Figueiras can make a big difference.

Summer: Peak Season

July and August are when the Cíes Islands are most lively. The weather is warmer and more stable, and ferry frequency is at its maximum. This guarantees a vibrant experience, but also a higher influx of visitors. Although Figueiras is calmer than Rodas, we won't be alone. If we're looking for the sun and summer bustle, this is our time.

Shoulder Season: The Hidden Gem

For us, June and September are the best time to visit Playa de Figueiras. The weather is still good, but the number of tourists decreases. This allows us to enjoy the beach with greater tranquility and intimacy. Ferries are still operating, and the nature of the Cíes is displayed in all its splendor. It is the ideal time for a more contemplative and relaxed experience at this beach in Vigo (Cíes Islands).

Low Season: For the Brave Only

Outside these months, access is very limited and the weather unpredictable. It's an option for the most adventurous, but late spring or early autumn offer the perfect balance.
