How to Get to Playa de Camaxe

Getting to Playa de Camaxe is part of the experience of discovering Illa de Arousa, a journey we always find rewarding. The island is connected to the peninsula by a bridge almost two kilometers long, which offers us spectacular views of the estuary and its 'bateas', those floating platforms where the famous Galician mussels are cultivated. Crossing this bridge already immerses us in the maritime and tranquil atmosphere that characterizes the island.

By Car

If we're coming from anywhere in Galicia, the most comfortable way to get there is by car. We'll take the Atlantic Highway (AP-9) and turn off towards the O Salnés region. From there, we'll follow the signs to Vilanova de Arousa and, subsequently, to Illa de Arousa. Once on the island, Playa de Camaxe is located in the south-east area, quite close to the urban center. The island's streets are narrow and quiet, and although the beach itself does not have a dedicated, massive parking lot, it's common to find areas to park nearby, on the surrounding streets, especially outside the high season. We always recommend going with time to find a good spot and, if possible, opt for parking a bit further away to take a walk and enjoy the surroundings.

Public Transport

Public transport to get directly to Playa de Camaxe can be a bit more limited, but not impossible. There are bus lines connecting Illa de Arousa with nearby municipalities like Vilagarcía de Arousa, O Grove, or Cambados. Once on Illa de Arousa, from the town's bus station, the beach is at a distance that can be covered on foot with a pleasant 15-20 minute walk, or by local taxi. We consider that, if the weather permits, walking is the best option to soak up the local atmosphere and discover charming corners.

The Sand and the Water

When we talk about Playa de Camaxe, the quality of its sand and the purity of its waters are two of its most outstanding attributes, and something we greatly value. The sand here is of a fine and soft texture, of a white color that contrasts wonderfully with the greenish-blue of the Atlantic. Services and Facilities

It's important to be honest and transparent when describing a beach, and in the case of Playa de Camaxe, we highlight its rather pristine nature regarding direct services on the sand. Unlike large urban beaches, Camaxe is a cove that prioritizes tranquility and natural beauty, so we won't find a wide range of facilities directly on the sand, such as showers, 'chiringuitos' (beach bars), or permanent lifeguard services. However, this doesn't mean we are devoid of comforts, as the proximity to the urban center of Illa de Arousa effectively makes up for these shortcomings.

The most relevant and practical service we can mention in the vicinity is Parking. Although there isn't a massive, organized parking lot right next to the beach, the streets adjacent to the cove usually offer free parking options, which facilitates car access. We always recommend arriving early, especially in high season, to secure a good spot. Once parked, the beach is just a few steps away.
