How to Get to Playa de Bao

Getting to Playa de Bao is surprisingly easy, which is one of its great advantages. If coming from the mainland, the main access is via the bridge connecting Vilanova de Arousa with A Illa de Arousa. Once on the island, the beach is practically at the beginning, on the right-hand side, just after crossing the bridge. The signage is clear and will guide you without any issues.

• By car: This is the most common and comfortable option. From Pontevedra or Santiago de Compostela, take the AP-9 Motorway and then the exit towards Vilagarcía de Arousa/Vilanova de Arousa. From Vilanova, follow the signs to A Illa de Arousa. There are parking areas near the beach, although they can fill up quickly during the high season, so we recommend arriving early.
• By bus: There are bus lines connecting A Illa de Arousa with Vilagarcía de Arousa and other points in the province. The stop closest to the Illa de Arousa beach will leave you within a short walking distance.
• By bicycle: For the more adventurous, the island has bike lanes and is a fantastic place to explore on two wheels. Getting to Playa de Bao by bicycle is a very pleasant and sustainable option.

The Sand and Water

It is fine, golden sand, incredibly soft underfoot, perfect for sunbathing or for children to build their sandcastles without difficulty.
