How to Get to Playa de A Lanzada

Getting to Playa de A Lanzada is relatively straightforward, although we recommend planning your trip, especially during the high season, to avoid crowds. Its privileged location, halfway between two of Galicia's most popular tourist destinations, Sanxenxo and O Grove, makes it very accessible.

By Car

For most visitors, the car is the most comfortable option. If you are coming from the north or south of Galicia, the Atlantic Highway (AP-9) will take you to the vicinity. From the AP-9, you will need to take the exit towards Sanxenxo or O Grove, depending on your starting point and which part of the beach you want to access. The PO-308 road is the main coastal route connecting Sanxenxo with O Grove and runs parallel to the beach. You will see several signed accesses and parking areas along this road.

Parking is ample, with several designated areas, some paid and others free, although they can fill up quickly in the peak of summer. Our advice is to arrive early in the morning to secure a good spot, especially if you visit the beach in July or August. There are parking areas closer to the hermitage and others distributed along the sandy beach, offering different entry points to the shore.

By Public Transport

Although less frequent for direct access to the beach, there are bus lines connecting Sanxenxo and O Grove with other nearby towns and major Galician cities. Once in Sanxenxo or O Grove, you can take a taxi or, in some cases, local buses that stop near the beach. However, for the convenience of getting around the area and exploring the surroundings, the car remains the best option.

Pedestrian and Bicycle Access

The area has trails and promenades that allow pedestrian and bicycle access from nearby points. It is a fantastic option to enjoy the landscape and the sea breeze, especially if you are staying in Sanxenxo, Portonovo, or O Grove. The route is mostly flat and offers spectacular coastal views.

The Sand and Water

Playa de A Lanzada is famous, among other things, for the quality of its sand and the peculiarity of its waters. When we step onto this sandy expanse, the first thing we notice is the fine, golden sand, a pleasure for the feet that invites long barefoot walks. This characteristic, along with its great expanse, means that even on the busiest days, we don't have the feeling of overcrowding sometimes experienced on smaller beaches.

The water temperature, although refreshing in summer, is typically Galician, which some will consider a stimulus and others an invitation for a quicker dip. The water clarity is notable, and its quality is guaranteed, having earned it the Blue Flag distinction on numerous occasions, an award that certifies excellence in environmental management and services offered.

However, what truly defines the character of A Lanzada's waters are its waves. This beach is a paradise for lovers of water sports, especially surfing, kitesurfing, and windsurfing. The currents and waves can be strong, so we always recommend caution and respecting the lifeguards' instructions. For those seeking a calmer swim, on days with calmer seas or in more sheltered areas, it is possible to enjoy a dip without major surprises. Nevertheless, if you are with small children or are less experienced swimmers, we advise you to take extra precautions and stay in the supervised zones.
