How to Get to Playa Larga

To reach the serene Playa Larga in Lorca, the main access is usually by car, as public transport is limited in this coastal area. We recommend taking the A-7 motorway and then turning onto the C-3211 towards Águilas if coming from the north, or directly towards the coastal area of Lorca. The beach is located south of Puntas de Calnegre, a small and picturesque coastal settlement.

Access by Car

Once we approach the coast of Lorca, we must follow the signs towards Puntas de Calnegre. From there, Playa Larga extends to the south. The final access to the beach is via unpaved dirt roads in good condition, although it is advisable to drive with caution. Near the beach, we will find designated areas that serve as natural, unpaved parking, where we can park our vehicle without major issues, especially outside the high season. We always advise arriving early during the summer months to secure a good spot.

Public Transport

It is important to note that public transport to this area is practically non-existent or very limited. There are no regular bus lines that go directly to Playa Larga. Therefore, a private car or a taxi are the most viable options to enjoy this spot. Planning the trip in advance is key for a hassle-free experience.

The Sand and Water

The first thing that catches our attention when stepping onto Playa Larga is the particularity of its surface. Here, we will not find the fine, golden sand typical of other beaches. Instead, we are greeted by a combination of coarse sand and pebbles, giving it a more natural and wild appearance. This mix, which in some stretches leans more towards sand and in others towards small stones, is perfect for those who don't enjoy sand sticking everywhere and prefer a firmer surface for walking or laying out a towel.

Sand Characteristics

The mixed sand, with its grayish tone and the presence of pebbles, is the distinctive feature of Playa Larga. This composition helps keep the water clearer, as the sand is not stirred up as easily by the wave movement. Underwater visibility is good, which also allows for snorkeling near the rocky areas, where we can observe some marine life.

Although Playa Larga is known for its natural and semi-virgin atmosphere, it is not lacking in some basic services that contribute to a comfortable stay. It is important to remember that, being a less developed beach, we will not find the same amount of infrastructure as in more touristy destinations, but the essentials are covered, especially during the summer months.

Available Services

During the high season, generally from June to September, the beach has lifeguard services, which gives us extra peace of mind when enjoying a swim, especially if we are with children. Furthermore, showers are usually installed so we can rinse off the salt before heading home, a detail that is always appreciated. Regarding food and drink, we might find a temporary chiringuito offering drinks, ice creams, and simple tapas, but this is not guaranteed at all times of the year. Therefore, we always advise bringing our own provisions of water and food.

Other Amenities

As mentioned earlier, the parking is an unpaved dirt area, but spacious, which facilitates car access. We will also find litter bins distributed along the beach, encouraging us to keep the environment clean and respect nature. However, we should not expect to find services such as umbrella and sunbed rentals, designated sports areas, or permanent public toilets. The essence of Playa Larga lies precisely in its simplicity and respect for the surrounding natural environment.
