Today we dive into one of those corners that invite you to completely disconnect: Playa del Estacio in La Manga del Mar Menor, within the municipality of San Javier, in the province of Murcia. We're not talking about just any beach; this is a destination that, for us, represents the essence of a relaxed holiday, especially if we're traveling with children or simply seeking a break from the hustle and bustle.

Located at the northernmost tip of La Manga, just before the famous Estacio bridge that connects to the Tomás Maestre Marina, this beach benefits from the unique characteristics of the Mar Menor. Its waters, always temperate and with little wave action, make it a true paradise for those who prefer calm to the wildness of the Mediterranean. It's a place where time seems to slow down, inviting us to enjoy every ray of sunshine and every sea breeze without worries.

How to get to Playa del Estacio

Getting to Playa del Estacio is quite straightforward, although it's important to consider its location at the northern tip of La Manga. If we're coming from Murcia city or Cartagena, the most direct route is usually via the A-30 motorway and then the RM-12, which takes us directly to La Manga. Once on the peninsula, we'll have to travel almost its entire length northwards. The beach is located just before the bridge that gives access to the Tomás Maestre Marina, so its location is quite recognizable.

By car

The car is, without a doubt, the most comfortable means of transport to get to Playa del Estacio and explore the surroundings. The area has parking options, although in high season it can be a bit more difficult to find a spot near the shore. We always recommend arriving early to secure a good spot. There are public parking areas and some nearby streets where you can park without a problem.

Public transport

During the summer months, La Manga has a bus service that runs the entire length of the strip, from Cabo de Palos to Estacio. We can take this bus and get off at one of the stops near the Tomás Maestre Marina. Although it's a slower option, it allows us to forget about the car and enjoy the scenery without worries. There are also connections to La Manga from San Javier or Cartagena, although with transfers.

The sand and the water

One of the most appreciated characteristics of Playa del Estacio is, without a doubt, its sand and its waters. Here we find fine, golden sand that invites us to walk barefoot and build sandcastles effortlessly. It's clean sand, pleasant to the touch, perfect for laying out a towel and enjoying a sunny day without discomfort.

But if there's one thing that defines this beach, it's the water of the Mar Menor. Known as the largest saltwater lagoon in Europe, its waters are exceptionally calm, warm, and shallow. This means we can wade out meters and meters without the water covering us, an ideal characteristic for the little ones or for those who don't feel comfortable in deep water. The absence of currents and the minimal wave action make swimming a pleasant and safe experience. The water temperature, which in summer can exceed 25°C, is a delight that allows us to enjoy long swims without feeling cold.

• Parking: As mentioned, there are parking options nearby, which facilitates access to the beach.
• Chiringuitos and Restaurants: On the beach and in the surroundings of the Tomás Maestre Marina, we find several chiringuitos and restaurants where we can enjoy a good coffee, a soft drink, a snack, or even a full meal with sea views. They are perfect for recharging our batteries.
• Lifeguard Service: Safety is paramount, and the presence of lifeguards during the high season gives us additional peace of mind, knowing that professionals are watching over our safety and that of our loved ones.
• Sun loungers and umbrellas: For those who prefer to travel light or simply want an extra bit of comfort, there are sun lounger and umbrella rental services. This allows us to relax to the maximum without worrying about carrying our own equipment.
• Equipment Rental: Given the calm of the Mar Menor, the beach is ideal for practicing gentle water sports. At some points, you can rent equipment like paddle surf boards, kayaks, or small boats, which adds a touch of adventure to our beach day.
