Although the car is the most popular option, it's also possible to get there by bus. There are bus lines connecting Cartagena with Cabo de Palos and La Manga del Mar Menor. For those arriving by plane, the Region of Murcia International Airport (Corvera) is the closest, about 50 kilometers away. From there, we can rent a car or take a taxi. There are also public transport options connecting the airport with Cartagena, and from there, connect with the line to Cabo de Palos. Alicante-Elche Airport, although further away (about 120 km), is also a popular option with more international flights.
The Sand and Water
When we talk about Playa de Levante (Cabo de Palos), the quality of its sand and the transparency of its waters are two of its biggest attractions. For us, they are the elements that define the experience of this beach and make it such a special place.
The Sand: A Golden and Soft Blanket
The sand of Playa de Levante is predominantly fine and of a beautiful golden color. It's very pleasant to the touch, ideal for walking barefoot along the shore, building sandcastles with the kids, or simply relaxing on a towel. The type of ground is purely sand, which facilitates access to the water without surprises of uncomfortable rocks or pebbles. This uniformity of the seabed makes it especially safe and comfortable for all swimmers. The gentle slope of the beach towards the sea also contributes to this feeling of comfort, allowing the water to cover gradually.
The Water: Crystal Clear and Calm
The waters of Playa de Levante are, in a word, wonderful. They are crystal clear, allowing you to see the seabed clearly, and are usually very calm, thanks to the natural protection offered by the area's geography and the absence of strong currents. This calm makes it an ideal place for swimming, even for the little ones, who can play safely at the water's edge. The water temperature, typical of the Mediterranean, is very pleasant during the summer months, inviting long dips and enjoying a refreshing swim.
The cleanliness of the water is a strong point of this beach, reflected in the presence of the Blue Flag, a distinction that certifies the excellent water quality, environmental management, safety, and services offered by the beach. For us, this is a guarantee that we are choosing a destination that cares about the well-being of its visitors and the conservation of its natural environment. Diving into these waters is a true delight and one of the main reasons why Playa de Levante (Cabo de Palos) is one of our favorite Murcia beaches.
