From the moment we set foot on Playa de Levante in Águilas, Murcia, we knew we were facing one of those coastal destinations that has it all. It's not just a beach; it's a hub of life, a meeting point and a place of relaxation for all of us seeking the essence of the Mediterranean. Its privileged location, right next to the port and the urban centre of Águilas, makes it an accessible and vibrant corner, where the sun shines with a special intensity and the sea invites us to immerse ourselves in its crystal-clear waters.

The Playa de Levante in Águilas stretches for a kilometre, offering ample space to enjoy. Its fine, golden sand is a delight for the feet, and its waters, generally calm and shallow, are perfect for children's bathing and for those who simply want to float and be carried away by the sea breeze. It's a beach that breathes a family atmosphere and, year after year, is awarded the prestigious Blue Flag, a distinction that certifies its excellent water quality, services and environmental management.

How to get to Playa de Levante

Getting to Playa de Levante is really simple, which makes it even more attractive. If we come by car, Águilas is well connected by road. From the city of Murcia, we can take the A-7 towards Lorca and then the A-7/AP-7, turning off onto the RM-11 which will take us directly to Águilas. Once in the municipality, the beach is very central and well signposted, located along the promenade that borders the urban centre.

Parking

Regarding parking, as it is an urban beach, we have several options. During the high season, it can be a bit more difficult to find a spot near the promenade, but there are regulated parking zones (ORA) and some public underground car parks in the centre of Águilas that allow us to leave the car at a comfortable distance and then take a pleasant walk to the sand. We always recommend arriving early to secure a good spot.

Public Transport

Águilas also has a local train station, which connects with Lorca and Murcia, offering an interesting alternative to avoid the car. Once at the station, Playa de Levante is a short walk away. Furthermore, the municipality has urban bus lines that facilitate travel to different areas and beaches, including Levante, which is ideal if we are staying a bit further from the centre.

The sand and the water

Playa de Levante wins us over from the first moment with its sand. It is predominantly fine and golden, a true natural carpet that invites you to walk barefoot or build sandcastles with the children. There are no annoying rocks on the shore, making it very comfortable and safe for everyone. The feeling of walking on it while the sea breeze caresses us is one of those small, great joys that the Mediterranean gives us.

As for the water, it is one of its strong points. The waters of Playa de Levante in Águilas are famous for their quality and transparency, a reflection of the Blue Flag that flies proudly. Its turquoise blue hue invites you to take a dip, and being a sheltered beach, it usually has very gentle or no waves, making it a perfect natural swimming pool. The water temperature, especially in summer and early autumn, is ideal for enjoying long swims without feeling cold. We have found it to be an excellent place to start snorkelling, as the clarity allows you to observe small fish and marine life near the shore, although for a deeper dive, other nearby coves may offer greater biodiversity.

• Toilets/WCs: We have public toilet modules, clean and well-maintained, which is fundamental, especially if we are with children.
• Lifeguards: During the high season, the beach has lifeguard posts and surveillance, ensuring the safety of bathers. It's always reassuring to know there are professionals looking out for us.
• Sunshades and Sun Loungers: For those who prefer not to carry their own equipment, there are sunshade and sun lounger rental services, allowing us to relax comfortably in the shade.
• Full Accessibility: An aspect we love about this beach is its accessibility. It has wooden walkways that reach the sand, and in some points, even to the water's edge, facilitating access for people with reduced mobility. There are also amphibious chairs and assistance personnel during the high season, making it an inclusive and exemplary beach.

Leisure and Dining

• Chiringuitos and Restaurants: Along the promenade bordering the beach, we find a great variety of chiringuitos and restaurants where we can enjoy anything from a soft drink or an ice cream to a full meal with sea views. It's ideal for a snack at midday or for dinner while watching the sunset. The offer is very varied, from traditional tapas to more elaborate dishes.
• Children's Areas: For the little ones, the beach has children's play areas on the sand, allowing them to have fun non-stop when they're not in the water. This, combined with the calm waters, makes it a paradise for families.
