Located in the Calblanque, Monte de las Cenizas y Peña del Águila Regional Park, in the municipality of Cartagena, Murcia, this jewel of the Spanish Mediterranean is much more than just a stretch of sand. It's a natural sanctuary, a canvas of golden dunes, rugged cliffs, and waters of astonishing transparency that invite us to disconnect from the hustle and bustle and reconnect with the purest essence of nature.

How to Get to Playa de Calblanque

Getting to this natural paradise is part of the adventure and requires a bit of planning, especially if we venture during the high season. Access to Playa de Calblanque is regulated to preserve its ecosystem, something we applaud and understand as necessary. During the summer months (generally from mid-June to mid-September), access by private vehicle is restricted.

Access in High Season (Summer)

In summer, we must leave our car in a designated parking area near the park, from where a shuttle bus service takes us directly to the beaches. This system, although it may seem like a minor inconvenience, is essential to reduce pressure on the ecosystem and ensure that the visiting experience is calmer and more respectful of the environment. The cost of parking and the bus is usually symbolic and is worth it for the tranquility it offers once we are there. It's a way to contribute to the conservation of this unique space.

Access Outside High Season

Outside the summer season, car access is free and we can drive directly to the parking areas closest to the coves. From Cartagena, the journey takes about 20-30 minutes by car, and from La Manga del Mar Menor, just 10-15 minutes. The roads are good, although the last stretches within the park are unpaved tracks that require careful driving. We always recommend checking the park's specific directions and schedules before our visit, as they may vary.

The Sand and Water

Playa de Calblanque gifts us with fine, golden sand, of a softness that invites us to walk barefoot and feel the connection with the earth. The stretch of beach is considerable, which allows us to always find a quiet spot, even on days with more visitors. It's sand that, under the Murcian sun, takes on an even warmer and more welcoming tone, creating a beautiful contrast with the turquoise blue of the waters.

The waters of Calblanque are, simply, spectacular. Their transparency is such that we can see the seabed with astonishing clarity, making it an ideal place for snorkeling. Generally, the waters are calm and shallow near the shore, perfect for a relaxing swim or for children to play safely. The water quality is excellent, a reflection of the care and protection this environment receives. We love diving into them and feeling the freshness of the Mediterranean in such a pure setting.

Services and Facilities

Precisely because of its status as a protected regional park, Playa de Calblanque is distinguished by its scarcity of services, and this, far from being an inconvenience, is part of its charm and value proposition. Here we won't find large infrastructures, noisy 'chiringuitos', or rows of rental umbrellas and sunbeds. The idea is for nature to be the only host.

Nevertheless, we do have some basic and essential services. During the summer season, when visitor numbers are higher, a Lifeguard service is set up to watch over our safety, which gives us great peace of mind. Bathrooms/WCs (portable or chemical) are also usually installed, and as mentioned, there is a controlled Parking area for access. It's crucial that we are prepared and bring with us everything we might need: water, food, sunscreen, and our own umbrella. This minimalism forces us to be more conscious of our impact and to enjoy the beach in a more authentic and self-sufficient way.

Best Time to Visit

The choice of the best time to visit Playa de Calblanque will largely depend on what we are looking for in our getaway. Each season offers a different perspective of this magnificent place:

• Spring (April-May): For us, spring is one of the most magical times. The temperature is mild and perfect for walking, the vegetation is at its peak with an explosion of colors and scents, and the beaches are still not crowded. It's ideal for hiking and photography enthusiasts.
• Early Summer (June): If we want to enjoy swimming and sun without the crowds of August, June is a fantastic option. The water temperatures are pleasant and access is still relatively easy, before the shuttle service begins.
