How to Get to Playa de El Charcón

Getting to Playa de El Charcón is relatively straightforward, although it requires a bit of attention, as it's not one of those beaches with massive signage. Its location in the municipality of Mijas, right on the Costa del Sol, makes it accessible from several points.

By Car

The most comfortable and flexible option is, without a doubt, the car. From Malaga city, we take the A-7 motorway towards Algeciras. Once we pass Fuengirola, we look for the exit towards La Cala de Mijas. The beach is located right between Fuengirola and La Cala, so it's important to pay attention to the signs and the coves that appear on our right if we're coming from the east. There are some free parking areas nearby, although in high season they can fill up quickly, so we recommend arriving early. Sometimes, you have to park on nearby streets and walk a bit.

By Public Transport

Although less direct, it is possible to get there using public transport. From Malaga or Fuengirola, we can take a bus that runs along the coast (like the one from Fuengirola to Marbella or La Cala). We'll need to get off at a stop close to the El Charcón area, which is often near a residential development. It's always advisable to check specific schedules and stops in advance, as direct access may require a walk.

The Sand and Water

The experience at Playa de El Charcón begins with the sensation under our feet. Here, the sand is not the typical fine, golden sand you might expect from other Andalusian beaches. At El Charcón, we find a very particular mix: sand of a darker, more greyish tone, combined with small pebbles and stones. • Lifeguards: During the high summer season, the beach has lifeguard services, which provides additional peace of mind, especially for families with children. It's an important detail we always value in any beach.
• Showers: To wash off the salt and sand after a good swim, the beach has public showers. A simple but indispensable service that is greatly appreciated.
• Parking: As mentioned before, there are parking areas nearby. Although it's not an exclusive beach parking lot, the possibility of parking close by is a considerable advantage.
