How to get to Playa de Almayate

Getting to Playa de Almayate is relatively easy, which adds to its appeal for those seeking an accessible yet no less special destination. We always recommend the car as the most comfortable and versatile option for exploring this area of the Axarquía, although there are also public transport alternatives.

By car

If we're coming from Málaga city, the journey takes about 30-40 minutes on the A-7 motorway towards Motril/Almería. We must take exit 272, which indicates 'Vélez-Málaga / Torre del Mar / Almayate'. Once on the local road, the signage to the beach is clear. There are several entrances and, along the beach, we find free and relatively spacious parking areas, especially outside the high season. This makes life much easier for us, as we don't have to worry too much about finding parking, something that can sometimes be an ordeal at other, more crowded beaches in Málaga. From Torre del Mar or Vélez-Málaga, the journey is even shorter, just 5-10 minutes.

By bus

For those who prefer public transport, there are interurban bus lines connecting Vélez-Málaga and Torre del Mar with Almayate. The stops are usually on the main road running parallel to the coast, which implies a short walk to the sand, but it's perfectly feasible. This option is ideal if we are staying in nearby urban centers and want to enjoy a beach day without parking or driving worries.

Furthermore, coarse sand doesn't stick to the skin or towels as much as fine sand, which makes cleaning up at the end of the day much easier. For us, it's a practical detail we always appreciate. The waters of Playa de Almayate are, in general, very clean and transparent.
