From the moment we set foot on the promenade of Playa de las Canteras, in the heart of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, we know we've arrived somewhere special. It's not just a beach; it's a lifestyle, a vibrant lung that beats to the rhythm of the city. It's a spectacle to see the waves break gently on La Barra, leaving a calm sea in their wake, while at the La Cícer end, the waves break with more force, attracting surfers and water sports enthusiasts. How to Get to Playa de las Canteras

Getting to Playa de las Canteras is extremely easy, given its privileged location in the center of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. If we arrive by plane at Gran Canaria Airport (LPA), we can take a direct bus (lines 60 or 91) which will drop us at the San Telmo or Santa Catalina bus stations, both well connected to the beach area. From Santa Catalina, the beach is just a few minutes' walk away.

If we prefer to drive, the beach is well signposted and has several underground car parks nearby, such as the one at Mercado del Puerto or Plaza de la Victoria, although finding on-street parking can be a challenge, especially in high season. For those already in the city, public transport is excellent, with numerous urban bus lines running along the Las Canteras promenade and connecting with the rest of the city. Furthermore, the beach is perfectly accessible on foot or by bicycle from any central point in Las Palmas.

The Sand and Water

The sand of Playa de las Canteras is one of its most appreciated features: fine, soft, and of a golden hue that invites barefoot walks and sandcastle building. It stretches along the entire bay, offering ample space for sunbathing and relaxing. The quality of the sand is exceptional, contributing to the feeling of well-being experienced there.

In the areas closer to La Cícer, without the protection of La Barra, the swell is more pronounced, creating a paradise for surfers and wave lovers. Additionally, the marine richness of La Barra makes Las Canteras an excellent place for snorkeling, allowing us to discover a great variety of fish and other marine species just a few meters from the shore.

The influx of tourists is lower than in summer, allowing for a more relaxed enjoyment of the beach. It's a good time for surfing at La Cícer and for exploring the island.
• Summer (June-August): This is the peak season par excellence. The beach buzzes with activity, with a lively and festive atmosphere. Temperatures are higher, perfect for swimming and water sports. However, expect to find more people and accommodation prices may be higher.
• Autumn (September-November): Similar to spring, autumn offers excellent weather, with the sea still warm and fewer crowds. October and November are very pleasant months to visit, combining beach days with island excursions.
• Winter (December-February): While much of Europe is cold, in Las Canteras we can still enjoy the sun and a swim in the sea. It's a popular time to escape the winter, and the beach continues to offer a pleasant atmosphere, although perhaps with fewer hours of sunlight per day.

• Vegueta: The historic quarter of the city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We'll get lost in its cobbled streets, visit the Cathedral of Santa Ana, the Casa de Colón, and the Museo Canario. It's a journey into the island's colonial past.
• Triana: Adjacent to Vegueta, it's the main pedestrian shopping street, full of shops, charming cafes, and modernist buildings. Ideal for a day of shopping or a quiet coffee.
• Puerto de la Luz and de Las Palmas: One of the most important ports in the Atlantic. We can take a walk around the area, visit the Mercado del Puerto (with its food and drink stalls), or simply observe the port activity.
• Parque de Santa Catalina: A nerve center of the city, where important events like the Carnival are held. Surrounded by museums like the Elder Museum of Science and Technology.
