How to Get to Playa de las Dunas

Getting to Playa de las Dunas is relatively straightforward, although its somewhat more secluded character compared to other urban beaches in the area requires some planning. We recommend the car as the most comfortable and practical option to access this paradise, as it gives us the necessary flexibility to explore not only the beach but also its wonderful surroundings.

By Car from Huelva City

From Huelva city, the journey is short and pleasant, approximately 20-30 minutes. We will take the A-494 road towards Mazagón. This road takes us directly to the coast. Once past the urban center of Mazagón, we will continue on this same road towards Palos de la Frontera. Playa de las Dunas is located on a stretch between Mazagón and the Parador de Mazagón. We will see signposted turn-offs and accesses to parking areas. It is essential to respect the signage and park in designated areas to avoid damaging the fragile dune ecosystem. From these parking lots, several wooden walkways will guide us through the dunes directly to the sand, a path that is in itself a short walk through nature.

By Car from Seville and Other Provinces

If we are coming from Seville, the most direct route is via the A-49 Motorway towards Huelva. Once near Huelva, we will take the exit towards the A-494 in the direction of Mazagón and follow the aforementioned directions. The trip from Seville is approximately one hour and fifteen minutes to one and a half hours, depending on traffic. Connections with the A-49 are excellent from other Andalusian provinces, which facilitates access to Huelva beaches from any point in the region.

By Public Transport

Although there is no bus line that drops us off directly on the sand of Playa de las Dunas, we can take a bus to Mazagón from Huelva. Several transport companies, such as Damas, operate this route regularly, especially during the high season. Once in Mazagón, we could opt for a taxi to get to the beach or, if we are adventurous and not carrying much luggage, take a significant walk along the coast, although it is not the most recommended way to comfortably reach the exact point of the beach. The freedom offered by the car is, without a doubt, the best option for exploring this area and its multiple access points.

When we step onto Playa de las Dunas, the first thing that captivates us is the quality and immensity of its sand. We are faced with an extensive stretch of fine, golden sand, a distinctive feature of Huelva beaches. It is a soft, almost silky sand to the touch, perfect for walking barefoot, for children to play building castles and impossible figures, or simply for lying down and feeling its warmth under the sun. The spaciousness of the sandy area is such that we never feel crowded; there is always plenty of room to spread out our towel and enjoy privacy, even on the busiest days. This vastness gives an unparalleled feeling of freedom.

They are usually clean and transparent waters, with a blue-green color that invites swimming and immersion.
