How to Get to Playa de la Guardia

Getting to Playa de la Guardia is relatively straightforward, making it an accessible destination for most visitors. If we come by car, the most common and comfortable way, the A-7 motorway (Autovía del Mediterráneo) is our main ally. We must take the exit towards Salobreña and follow the signs towards the coast and the different beaches of the municipality. Playa de la Guardia is well signposted once we approach the vega area.

By Car

From Granada city, the journey takes approximately 45-50 minutes, depending on traffic. From Málaga, the trip is a bit longer, around an hour and a quarter. Once in Salobreña, we'll find various parking options. Playa de la Guardia has nearby parking areas, both free and paid during high season, which facilitates direct access to the sand without major complications. We recommend arriving early in the summer months to secure a good spot, as, although it's not a crowded beach, the parking can fill up.

By Public Transport

Although a car is most recommended, we can also consider public transport. There are intercity bus lines connecting Salobreña with Granada and other nearby coastal towns. Once in Salobreña, we can opt for a local taxi or, if we're staying nearby, a pleasant walk to the beach. However, for the convenience of carrying our beach gear, the car remains the preferred option for most of us.

The Sand and Water

One of the most distinctive characteristics of Playa de la Guardia is, without a doubt, its particular composition. Here we won't find the typical fine, golden sand we often associate with other Mediterranean beaches. Instead, Playa de la Guardia surprises us with a unique mix of medium-grain dark sand and small pebbles or stones. This 'mixed sand', as we call it, gives it a rustic, natural charm that we love. It's true that it can be a bit rougher on bare feet compared to fine sand, but in return, it offers greater cleanliness and less stickiness, which is appreciated when returning home.

The waters of Playa de la Guardia are, for us, one of its greatest attractions. They are usually calm, clean, and of a deep blue that invites a swim. The water quality is excellent, a fact reinforced by the presence of the Blue Flag, which assures us we are in a well-maintained, environmentally respectful setting. The entry into the sea has a gentle slope, making it quite safe for children, although we always recommend caution and supervision. The absence of large waves makes this beach an ideal place for swimming and enjoying a dip without worries. Furthermore, the transparency of its waters often allows us to easily glimpse the seabed, making it interesting for snorkeling enthusiasts who want to explore underwater life closer to the shore.
