How to Get to Playa de Granada

Getting to Playa de Granada is relatively easy, as it has good connections. We always recommend planning the trip in advance, especially during high season, to avoid any setbacks.

By Car

The most common and comfortable option for many is by car. From the city of Granada, the journey is approximately 60-70 kilometers and is done mainly on the A-44 (Sierra Nevada-Tropical Coast Motorway). It's a trip of about 45-50 minutes, with landscapes changing from mountain to coast. Once in Motril, the signage to the beaches is clear. Playa de Granada is located east of the port of Motril. We always look for parking in the designated areas along the promenade, although in summer it can be a bit more difficult to find a spot, so arriving early is key.

By Bus

If you prefer public transport, there are regular bus lines connecting Granada with Motril. The company Alsa operates this route quite frequently. Once at the Motril bus station, you can take a local bus that will take you directly to the beach area. It's an economical and sustainable option, ideal for those who don't want to worry about parking. We've used it on occasion and the experience has always been good.

Other Means

For those arriving by plane, the nearest airport is Granada (Federico García Lorca), although Malaga airport can also be considered, which is about an hour and a half away. From both airports, you can rent a car or take a bus to Motril. We believe the flexibility of having your own vehicle is an advantage if you plan to explore the surroundings, but public transport is a viable alternative.

The Sand and Water

When we talk about Playa de Granada, we mention its geological characteristics, which distinguish it from other beaches more famous for their fine sand. Here, the protagonist is the pebble. The beach is mainly composed of gravel and medium-sized pebbles, which gives it a very particular look and feel.

We always advise bringing water shoes or suitable footwear for walking along the shore and entering the water, as the pebbles can be a bit uncomfortable for bare feet, especially if you're not used to them. However, this type of ground has its advantages: the water tends to be exceptionally clear and clean, as the pebbles don't mix with it like fine sand does. The underwater visibility is fantastic, making it an interesting place for snorkeling near the shore.

The waters of Playa de Granada are generally calm and temperate, characteristics of the Tropical Coast, which enjoys a subtropical microclimate. The absence of strong currents and the shallow depth near the shore make it very safe for swimming, especially for children. We really appreciate that calmness of the sea, which invites you to swim relaxedly or simply float and be carried by the sea breeze. It's a charming contrast with other more rugged beaches, and offers us a very serene and pleasant bathing experience.

One of the strong points of Playa de Granada is its excellent service infrastructure. For us, a well-equipped beach makes a difference in the vacation experience. Here you'll find everything you need to enjoy a worry-free day at the beach.

Among the most notable services, we have:

• Showers and foot-washing stations: Essential for rinsing off the salt and pebbles before leaving.
• Parking: Large parking areas, some of them free, although in summer, as we've already mentioned, it's better to arrive early.
• Chiringuitos and restaurants: Along the promenade, you'll find a wide variety of options, from the most traditional 'chiringuitos' where you can enjoy good fried fish to restaurants with a more elaborate gastronomic offer. We love the possibility of dining with sea views.
• Lifeguard service: During the high season, the beach has first-aid posts and qualified personnel, which gives us great peace of mind, especially if we're with children.
• Sunbed and umbrella rental: If you don't want to carry your own equipment, you can rent umbrellas and comfortable sunbeds to enjoy the sun in complete comfort.
• Restrooms/WC: Clean and well-maintained facilities, a basic but fundamental service.
