This cove, with its unique beauty, offers a different beach experience, away from the hustle and bustle of large crowds, yet with all the charm one could wish for.

For us, Playa de Calabajío is synonymous with peace and serenity. How to Get to Playa de Calabajío

Getting to Playa de Calabajío is relatively straightforward, although its somewhat more 'hidden' character gives it that charm of discovery. For us, the best option is always by car, as it offers the most flexibility and comfort for transporting everything needed for a day at the beach.

By Car

If you're coming from Almuñécar, you should take the N-340 towards Motril. The beach is located a few kilometers from the urban center, and you'll see signs guiding you towards it. There is a well-marked turnoff that will take you directly to the parking area. The parking lot is not excessively large, and in high season it can fill up quickly, so we recommend arriving early to secure a good spot. Once parked, a short walk will separate you from the shore, allowing you to admire the views as you descend.

From Granada city, the journey is approximately one hour and ten minutes via the A-44 to the exit for the Tropical Coast, and then the N-340. From Málaga, the trip is similar, about an hour, taking the A-7 towards Almería and exiting at the turnoff for Almuñécar.

On Foot or by Public Transport

Although it's possible to walk from some nearby residential areas of Almuñécar, it's not the most comfortable option if you're carrying a lot or coming from the center. Public transport in the area does not have a direct stop at the beach, so you would have to get off on the N-340 and walk a considerable distance. Therefore, our recommendation remains using your own vehicle for a more pleasant and hassle-free experience.

The Sand and Water

One of the most distinctive features of Playa de Calabajío is its particular composition. Here, you won't find the typical fine, golden sand you might expect from other beaches in Granada. In Calabajío, the sand is of a mixed type, a combination of coarser sand and small stones or pebbles. This gives it a unique texture underfoot and a darker tone that contrasts wonderfully with the turquoise blue of its waters.

The Waters

The waters of Playa de Calabajío are, for us, one of its greatest attractions. They are notably crystal clear and calm, making them a paradise for swimming. The absence of strong currents and its natural protection make the sea appear almost like a swimming pool, ideal for swimming and relaxing. The clarity of the water is such that, even without diving goggles, you can appreciate the seabed, inviting snorkeling and observing underwater life. The water temperature is usually pleasant, especially from late spring well into autumn, allowing for long swims.

The Seabed

The type of seabed of the beach is also mixed, with sandy areas alternating with rocky and pebbly zones. This diversity is perfect for snorkeling enthusiasts, as the rocks near the shore and at the ends of the cove are home to a variety of marine life. We recommend wearing water shoes if you have sensitive feet, as the stones can be a bit uncomfortable when entering and exiting the water, although the experience of its pristine waters more than makes up for this small detail.

Services and Facilities

Despite its tranquil and somewhat more 'wild' atmosphere compared to other beaches in Almuñécar, Playa de Calabajío does not lack the essential services that make our stay more comfortable and pleasant. We highly value a beach that maintains its natural essence without sacrificing basic comforts.

Chiringuitos and Dining

On the beach itself or in its immediate vicinity, you'll find at least one chiringuito that is usually operational during the high season and on weekends in the mid-season. These establishments are perfect for enjoying some good 'pescaíto frito' (fried fish), a paella, or simply a refreshing drink under the sun. We love the feeling of being able to eat with our feet in the sand, enjoying the sea views. It's the essence of the Tropical Coast.

The beach has public showers, a service we always appreciate after a refreshing swim to wash off the salt and sand before returning.
