How to Get to Cala Cristus

Getting to Cala Cristus is quite straightforward, which is a point in its favor. If we come by car, the best option is to take the C-31 and turn off towards Sant Antoni de Calonge. Once there, we follow the signs to Torre Valentina or directly to the beach. The cove has nearby parking areas, although in high season they may be paid, and it's advisable to arrive early to secure a good spot. We always recommend planning ahead if you visit the beach in the middle of summer.

For those who prefer public transport, there are bus lines connecting Sant Antoni de Calonge with other towns on the Costa Brava and with the city of Girona. From the Sant Antoni bus station, the cove is a distance that can be covered with a pleasant walk along the promenade, enjoying the views. It's an easy and well-signposted path that allows us to warm up before taking a dip.

The Sand and Water

The sand at Cala Cristus is undoubtedly one of its greatest attractions. It's a soft golden color with a fine texture, very pleasant for walking barefoot and for children to play building sandcastles. Unlike other coves on the Costa Brava, where rocks or pebbles predominate, here the sand is the star, making it very comfortable for lying down and relaxing in the sun. At the ends of the cove, we do find some rock formations that add character to the landscape and are perfect for exploring with diving goggles.

The waters are another of its strong points. With a turquoise blue color and enviable transparency, they invite us to dive in without hesitation. They are calm waters, generally without strong currents, making them very safe for swimming, especially for the little ones. The entrance to the sea is gentle and gradual, without sudden drops, which is ideal for families. The water temperature is pleasant during the summer months and refreshing in spring and autumn, perfect for a revitalizing swim.

• Parking: As mentioned, there are nearby parking areas, though it's advisable to arrive early in summer.

Best Time to Visit

For us, the best time to visit Cala Cristus depends a lot on what we're looking for. If we prefer tranquility and avoiding crowds, spring (May and June) and early autumn (September and October) are ideal. The weather is mild, the days are sunny, and the water still retains a pleasant temperature for swimming. During these months, we'll have the cove practically to ourselves and can enjoy its peace and beauty to the fullest.

If, on the other hand, we're looking for the summer atmosphere, with all services running at full capacity, the chiringuitos open, and the cove full of life, then July and August are the perfect months. However, we must be prepared to share the space with more people and, as already mentioned, arrive early to find parking. The water temperature in the middle of summer is fantastic, inviting long swims and water sports.
