How to Get to Playa de Mutriku

Getting to Playa de Mutriku is a simple adventure that rewards us with incredible landscapes. Mutriku, the municipality that hosts it, is strategically located on the Gipuzkoa coast, between the towns of Deba and Ondarroa. For those who choose to drive, the A-8 motorway (Bilbao-San Sebastián) is the main access route. We must take the exit towards Mutriku and, once in the town, follow the signs to the port and the beach. The journey from San Sebastián or Bilbao takes around 45-60 minutes, depending on traffic, and gifts us panoramic views of the Basque coast that are a prelude to what awaits us.

Once in Mutriku, access to the beach is relatively easy. There are parking areas near the port and close to the bathing zone, although they can fill up quickly during high season. It's advisable to arrive early to secure a good spot. From the parking lot, a short walk takes us directly to the area of the natural pools and the small sandy cove. For those who prefer public transport, there are bus lines connecting Mutriku with other nearby towns. However, to fully enjoy the flexibility and explore the surroundings, the car is usually the most comfortable option.

The Sand and Water

We also have Showers to wash off the salt and sand after a refreshing swim, and public Bathrooms/WCs, an indispensable service for any beach day. Regarding Parking, as mentioned, there are designated areas near the port and the beach access. It's important to remember that in the summer months these parking lots may be paid and tend to fill up quickly, so arriving early is always a good strategy. Although there are no chiringuitos directly on the sand, the center of Mutriku, with its bars and restaurants, is a short walk away, offering options for eating and drinking just minutes from the coast.

The choice of the best time to visit Playa de Mutriku largely depends on what we seek in our experience. If our main goal is to enjoy a refreshing swim and spend long hours in the sun, the summer months, from June to September, are undoubtedly the most suitable. During this time, temperatures are more pleasant, daylight hours are longer, and the lifeguard service is active, which adds an extra layer of safety.
