How to Get to Playa de la Isla de Santa Clara

Getting to Playa de la Isla de Santa Clara is part of the adventure and, at the same time, an experience in itself. Since it is located on an island, the options are limited but charming:

By Boat

The most common and recommended way to access the island is by the boat service operating from the port of Donostia-San Sebastian or from La Concha Pier, right in front of the City Hall. During the high season (especially in summer), these boats make regular trips every few minutes, taking visitors to the island and picking them up for the return. It is a short and pleasant journey that offers spectacular panoramic views of the entire bay and the city. The prices are reasonable and the service is efficient, making it the preferred option for most tourists and locals.

Walking (only at very low tide)

Although less frequent and only possible on rare occasions during the year, when the tide is exceptionally low, it is possible to walk to the island from Ondarreta Beach. However, this option is not advisable for everyone and requires a very good knowledge of the tide schedule and the safe path, as the risk of getting trapped by the rising tide is real. We always recommend opting for the boat, which is safe and much more enjoyable.

Access to the Beach from the Island Pier

Once on the island, the beach is not directly visible from the landing pier. You must follow a small path that descends towards the back of the island, where the cove is located. It is a short and simple walk, suitable for almost everyone, although it should be considered that access to the sand itself may involve some steps or slightly uneven areas.

• Bathrooms/WC: There are toilets available on the island, which is essential for our comfort during the stay.
• Restaurants: The island houses a well-known restaurant-bar, the 'Bar-Restaurante de la Isla', which offers an excellent option for eating or having a drink with impressive views of the bay. Here we can enjoy simple dishes, pintxos, and refreshing drinks. It is not a 'chiringuito' on the sand, but it serves a similar function with greater comfort.
• Lifeguard Service: During the summer season, the island usually has a lifeguard service to ensure the safety of swimmers, both on the beach and in the designated bathing areas. This gives us extra peace of mind, especially if we are with children.

Best Time to Visit

For us, the best time to visit Playa de la Isla de Santa Clara is undoubtedly during the summer months, from June to September.
