How to get to Playa de Luaña

Getting to Playa de Luaña is relatively straightforward, although its location in a more rural setting gives it a special charm. We, as experts in beach geography, always recommend planning the route in advance, especially during high season to avoid setbacks.

By car

The most comfortable way to access the Alfoz de Lloredo beach is undoubtedly by car. From the Cantabrian Motorway (A-8), we take exit 249 towards Cóbreces/Novales. Once there, the signs will guide us to Luaña and its beach. The journey from Santander usually takes about 40-50 minutes, and from Torrelavega, about 20-25 minutes. It's important to note that the road descending to the beach is a bit winding, but it is in good condition.

Parking

Playa de Luaña has an enabled Parking area nearby, which is a great advantage. During the summer months, this parking lot can fill up quickly, so we suggest arriving early, especially if visiting the beach on a weekend. Although there is parking, it is paid during high season, a small price to pay for the convenience of having the car close to the sandy beach.

Public transport

Access by public transport is more limited. There are bus lines connecting Santander or Torrelavega with nearby towns like Cóbreces or Novales, but from there, we would have to walk a considerable distance or resort to a taxi. Therefore, if we seek maximum comfort for our visit to Playa de Luaña, the car is the preferred option.

We also have clean and well-maintained Bathrooms/Toilets, a fundamental aspect for any family beach. As mentioned before, the Parking greatly facilitates car access.

Safety is a priority, and Playa de Luaña has a Lifeguard service during the bathing season, which gives us extra peace of mind, especially if we go with children. For the little ones, there is a Children's Play Area where they can play and have fun safely. Furthermore, during the summer months, Chiringuitos (beach bars) are usually set up where we can enjoy a refreshment, an ice cream, or even a light meal with sea views, an experience we always recommend.
