How to Get to Playa de Los Tranquilos

Getting to Playa de Los Tranquilos is part of the adventure and, fortunately, it's quite straightforward. Located on the coast of Ribamontán al Mar, this beach is mainly accessible by road, allowing us to enjoy the rural and coastal landscapes of Cantabria as we approach.

By Car

For most of us, the car will be the most comfortable and practical option. From Santander, the capital, the journey takes approximately 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic. We must take the A-8 motorway towards Bilbao and then turn off towards Somo/Pedreña/Loredo via the S-430 and S-431. Once in the Loredo or Somo area, we follow the signs to the beaches. Playa de Los Tranquilos is located between the more well-known beaches of Loredo and Langre, although it is more discreet. It is advisable to use a GPS navigator for the final directions, entering 'Playa de Los Tranquilos, Ribamontán al Mar' to arrive without any issues.

Parking

One of the advantages of this beach is that, although it doesn't have a massive parking lot right on the sand, it does have designated parking areas nearby. Generally, these are dirt parking lots or small spaces along the road that lead to the beach. It's important to arrive early during the high season (July and August) to secure a spot, as being a smaller beach, space is limited. From the parking area, there is usually a short walk, often along a well-marked path, to the sand. This short walk already prepares us for the tranquility that awaits.

Public Transport

Public transport to get directly to Playa de Los Tranquilos is more limited. There are bus lines connecting Santander with towns like Somo or Loredo, but from there, we would have to consider a taxi or a considerable walk to reach the beach. We always recommend a car for greater freedom and comfort when exploring this area of Cantabria and its many charms.

Being more sheltered than other beaches open to the Cantabrian Sea, its waves are usually more moderate, making it an ideal spot for swimming, especially for families with children or for those who prefer calm to the wildness of the sea. However, we are on the Cantabrian coast, and the water temperature is cool, as expected. For us, that coolness is part of its charm and an invitation to take a dip to refresh ourselves on warmer days. The water's clarity on serene days even allows us to see the sandy bottom, which adds a plus to the swimming experience.

• Lifeguard Service: During the summer season (generally from June to September), the beach has a lifeguard service. This provides us with great peace of mind, especially if we are with children. It is essential to respect their indi
