With its long stretch of golden sand, stretching for almost one and a half kilometers, Loredo offers us plenty of space for enjoyment, whether seeking the solitude of a morning walk or the lively atmosphere of a day of waves with friends.

This beach is not just a destination; it is an experience. We find ourselves before a sandy beach that faces the majestic Bay of Santander, gifting us with breathtaking panoramic views, especially at sunset. It is a place where nature expresses itself in its fullest splendor, with a well-preserved dune system and the constant presence of the Cantabrian Sea, which shapes its landscape and character. For us, it is a clear benchmark of what a beach in Cantabria should be: beautiful, versatile, and welcoming.

How to Get to Playa de Loredo

Getting to Playa de Loredo is relatively straightforward, making it an accessible destination for almost everyone. We usually opt for the car, as it gives us the freedom to explore the surroundings. From Santander, the journey is short and picturesque. We can take the S-10 road towards Solares and then turn off towards Somo and Loredo, following the signs. The trip takes approximately 20-25 minutes, depending on traffic.

Transportation Options

• By car: This is the most comfortable option. The beach has ample parking areas, both free and paid during the high season, which makes arrival very easy. Although on the busiest days it can be difficult to find a spot near the shore, there are always options a bit further away that allow us to arrive with a short walk.
• Public transport: There are bus lines connecting Santander with Somo, and from Somo, we can take another bus or even a taxi to Loredo. There is also the option of taking the 'Pedreñera', a boat service that crosses the Bay of Santander to Pedreña and Somo, a highly recommended experience for the views. From Somo, either on foot or by bus, you reach Loredo.
• By ferry from Santander: One of the most charming ways to arrive is by taking the ferry from the center of Santander to Somo. From there, Playa de Loredo is a short drive or bus ride away, or even a pleasant walk if we feel energetic. This option allows us to enjoy the stunning views of the bay and is perfect for avoiding the car. It is an experience we highly recommend.

The Sand and Water

Playa de Loredo wins us over at first sight with the quality of its sand. It is predominantly fine and of a golden hue that shines under the Cantabrian sun. When we walk barefoot, we feel an unparalleled softness that invites us to lie down and relax. The expanse of the beach ensures that, even on the busiest days, we will always find a spot to spread our towel and enjoy tranquility or bustle, as we please. The dunes, which flank part of the beach, add a wild and natural touch, protecting the ecosystem and offering us small shelters from the wind.

As for the water, the Cantabrian Sea gifts us with very varied conditions here. The waters of Loredo are known for their cleanliness and, during the bathing season, usually hold the Blue Flag, a distinction that gives us the peace of mind of knowing we are in a well-maintained and safe environment. The color of the water ranges from intense blues to emerald greens, depending on the light and sea conditions. The temperature, as is usual in northern Spain, is cool but incredibly refreshing on hot summer days. For us, diving into its waters is a true energy boost.

The Waves: A Surfer's Paradise

But if there is one thing that defines the waters of Loredo, it is its waves. This beach is a true paradise for lovers of surfing, bodyboarding, and other water sports. Its sandy seabed and orientation cause the waves to break consistently and with exceptional quality, suitable both for beginners taking their first steps in one of the many surf schools and for more experienced surfers seeking challenges. The energy of the sea here is palpable, and watching surfers ride the waves is a spectacle in itself. For us, even if we don't surf, the vibrant atmosphere generated around this sport is contagious and very attractive.
