Its waters, protected from the strongest currents thanks to its estuary configuration, are notably warmer and calmer than in other beaches in the region, making it a perfect refuge for families with young children and for those who simply seek a relaxing swim. How to Get to Playa de La Rabia

Getting to Playa de La Rabia is relatively straightforward, and part of its charm lies in its accessibility within a natural setting. We always recommend planning the route in advance, especially if visiting the area during high season, to avoid setbacks and fully enjoy the journey.

By Car

The car is, without a doubt, the most comfortable option to reach Playa de La Rabia. From the Cantabrian Motorway (A-8), whether coming from Santander (to the east) or Asturias (to the west), you must take exit 269 towards San Vicente de la Barquera/Oyambre/La Revilla. Once off the motorway, follow the signs to Playa de Oyambre or, more directly, to La Rabia. The local road CA-363 will take you directly to the vicinity of the beach. The journey from the motorway is short and well signposted, winding through green and bucolic landscapes that already hint at the beauty of the destination. There are several free parking areas around the beach, although, logically, they can fill up quickly on the busiest days during summer. Our recommendation is to arrive early to secure a good spot and avoid unnecessary circling.

By Public Transport

Public transport options are more limited, as is often the case with many of the more natural beaches in Cantabria. There is no direct bus line that drops you off right on the shore of Playa de La Rabia. However, you can consider taking a bus to San Vicente de la Barquera, which has regular connections from Santander and other important towns. Once in San Vicente, you could opt for a taxi or, for the more adventurous, rent a bicycle and enjoy a pleasant ride along the coast. This last option, besides being eco-friendly, allows you to enjoy the views and sea breeze before reaching your final destination.

On Foot or by Bicycle

For nature and sports lovers, getting to Playa de La Rabia on foot or by bicycle is a rewarding experience. The beach is part of the Parque Natural de Oyambre, an ideal area for hiking and cycling routes. There are well-defined trails connecting the beach with other coves and nearby towns like San Vicente de la Barquera. It's a fantastic way to explore the surroundings, discover hidden viewpoints, and enjoy the local flora and fauna before taking a well-deserved dip. Of course, we always recommend wearing appropriate footwear, carrying water, and using sun protection, especially in the warmer months.
