How to Get to Playa de El Bocal

Getting to Playa de El Bocal is relatively straightforward, although its location, more removed from the center of Santander, requires a short journey. We always recommend the car as the most comfortable and practical option, as it allows greater flexibility to explore the surroundings. From the center of Santander, the journey takes approximately 15-20 minutes, following the S-20 road towards the Faro de Cabo Mayor and then turning off towards the El Bocal area, where the Centro de Recuperación de Fauna Silvestre (Wildlife Recovery Center) is located. The beach is very close to this center, which makes it easy to locate.

Car Access and Parking

Once you approach the area, you'll find informal parking, generally on the roadside or in small clearings near the beach. It's important to consider that, as it's not a beach with massive tourist influx or large infrastructures, the parking is not officially signposted or paved. We advise arriving early, especially on good weather days or summer weekends, to secure a good spot. From where you park, access to the sand is via a path or stairs, which can be somewhat rustic, contributing to its natural charm but also meaning it's not a beach with easy access for people with reduced mobility.

Public Transport

Public transport to Playa de El Bocal is more limited. There are urban bus lines (TUS) that reach the vicinity of the El Faro area or the S-20, but from there you would have to walk a considerable stretch to the beach. Therefore, for us, the car remains the best option to fully enjoy the comfort and freedom of movement. Furthermore, as it's a more secluded beach, you won't find typical taxi or VTC services waiting right on the shore, so it's better to plan your return in advance if you choose not to go in your own vehicle.

The Sand and Water

Playa de El Bocal offers us a different experience in terms of its composition. Here, don't expect to find a vast expanse of fine, golden sand like in El Sardinero. Instead, we encounter a mixed-type sand, where coarser grains intertwine with small pebbles and, at times, with the presence of emerging rocks, especially at the ends of the cove and during low tide. The presence of submerged rocks in some areas also advises wearing suitable footwear if you plan to explore or take a dip. Services and Facilities

While Playa de El Bocal stands out for its natural beauty and tranquil atmosphere, it's essential to know that the services and facilities are minimal, almost non-existent. And it is precisely this lack of urbanization that, for us, contributes to its wild and authentic charm. Here you won't find chiringuitos right on the sand, nor showers, nor public toilets, nor umbrella and sunbed rentals. It's a beach to enjoy in its purest state, which means you must come prepared.

We always advise bringing everything you need with you: drinks, something to snack on, a towel, sunscreen, and, if you wish, your own chair or umbrella. The absence of services
