How to Get to Playa de Castilnovo

Getting to Playa de Castilnovo is part of its charm, as its access, although not complicated, helps maintain its wilder and less crowded character. For us, the best way to approach this gem of Conil de la Frontera is from the town itself. From the center of Conil, we can head south, following the signs towards the beaches. Playa de Castilnovo is located south of Los Bateles beach and La Fontanilla beach, and it is the first one we encounter heading towards El Palmar if we avoid the more urbanized area of Conil.

Access on Foot or by Bicycle

For the more adventurous or those who prefer to leave the car aside, it is possible to access Playa de Castilnovo on foot or by bicycle from the Conil promenade. It is a pleasant and relatively flat walk that allows us to enjoy the coastal views. However, it is important to consider that the distance is considerable, especially if we plan to explore the entire length of Castilnovo. We recommend wearing comfortable shoes and carrying enough water, particularly in the warmer months. The route is simple and allows us to appreciate the transition from urban beaches to this natural space. From the end of the promenade, we continue along a dirt path that borders the coast, taking us directly to the most pristine area of the beach. It is an ideal walk for mornings or the late afternoon, when the sun is not as strong and we can enjoy the sea breeze.

Access by Car and Parking

If we choose to go by car, the most direct access is usually via dirt roads branching off from the A-2233 highway, which connects Conil with El Palmar. These roads lead to parking areas that, we must warn, are mostly informal and unpaved. Especially in high season, finding a spot may require patience, and the terrain can be uneven. We always advise arriving early to secure a good spot, or at least one not too far from the shore. Do not expect a large organized parking lot with marked spaces; here the philosophy is more 'park where you can'. Once the vehicle is parked, we will have to walk a short distance through the dunes or along designated paths to reach the sand. It is crucial to respect the signage and not invade the protected dune areas, as they are very fragile ecosystems. Although we are on the Atlantic, and therefore it is common to have some waves, in the area closest to the shore, the waters are usually quite calm, making them suitable for swimming for all ages.
