How to Get to Playa de La Arena

Getting to Playa de La Arena is relatively easy, given its good connection with the main communication routes of Bizkaia. If we come by car, the A-8 motorway (Bilbao-Santander) is our best ally. We must take the exit towards Muskiz or Zierbena, and from there, follow the signs to the beach. The signage is clear and will guide us without difficulty to its vicinity.

Once nearby, we will find several parking areas, some of them quite spacious, especially on the Muskiz side. It's important to consider that during the summer months and on good weather weekends, these parking lots can fill up quickly, so we recommend arriving early to secure a good spot. For those who prefer public transport, Bizkaibus offers several lines connecting Muskiz and Zierbena with Bilbao and other nearby municipalities, with stops a short distance from the beach. It's an excellent option to avoid parking stress and contribute to more sustainable tourism.

The Sand and Water

Playa de La Arena is distinguished, as its name indicates, by its sand. It is a fine and golden type of sand, very pleasant to the touch, ideal for walking barefoot, building sandcastles, or simply lying down to sunbathe. During this period, the beach is at its peak, with all services operational and a vibrant atmosphere. However, it is also the time of highest attendance, so if we prefer a bit more tranquility, we should arrive early or aim for weekdays.

For surf lovers, spring and autumn offer optimal conditions. The waves are usually more consistent and powerful, and the beach is less crowded, allowing for greater freedom to enjoy the breaks. The weather in these seasons, although cooler, remains pleasant for water sports. Even in winter, the beach has its charm, ideal for long walks along the shore, admiring the wildness of the Cantabrian Sea, and enjoying the solitude and wild beauty of the landscape.
