How to get to Playa de Son Bou

Getting to Playa de Son Bou is relatively straightforward, which contributes to its popularity. If we are coming from Menorca airport or the capital, Mahón, the journey by car takes approximately 20-25 minutes. We need to take the ME-1 road towards Alaior and, before reaching the town, we will find signs to turn off towards Son Bou. The signage is clear and presents no complications.

By car

For those who prefer the comfort of their own or a rental vehicle, Son Bou has several parking areas which, although they can fill up quickly in high season, usually offer enough spaces. There are public car parks near the main beach access points. We always advise arriving early during July and August to secure a good spot and avoid queues. The ease of access by car is a major plus for families or those with a lot of luggage.

By public transport

If we opt for public transport, there are regular bus lines connecting Son Bou with Mahón, Alaior and even Ciutadella, although the latter connection may require transfers. It is a comfortable and economical option, especially if we don't want to worry about parking. The bus stops are usually conveniently located near the main access points to the beach and the commercial area of the resort.

The sand and the water

One of the most notable aspects of Playa de Son Bou is, without a doubt, its fine, golden sand. It is a pleasure to walk barefoot on it, to feel its softness underfoot. This characteristic makes it a perfect place for children to play and build sandcastles without worries. The sand extends generously, offering ample space for towels and umbrellas, even on the busiest days.

The waters of Son Bou are another of its great attractions. With an intense turquoise colour and astonishing transparency, they invite you to immerse yourself and enjoy a refreshing swim. Furthermore, the entry into the sea is very gentle and gradual, which means we can go quite a few metres in without the water covering us excessively. The watchtowers are strategically placed to cover the extensive length of the beach. There are also showers to wash off the sand and salt after a swim, as well as clean and accessible toilets/WCs, a detail we always value positively. Full accessibility is a reality here, with wooden walkways that facilitate access to the sand for people with reduced mobility, and even amphibious chairs available at some points.

Leisure and dining

Lovers of good food and a relaxed atmosphere will find several chiringuitos and restaurants right on the beach or very close to it. These establishments offer everything from soft drinks and ice creams to more elaborate dishes from local and international cuisine. It is a delight to be able to enjoy a paella or fresh fish with sea views. Furthermore, we have the possibility of renting umbrellas and sun loungers, which allows us to enjoy the sun comfortably without needing to carry our own equipment.

Activities and entertainment

For the more active, there is equipment rental for water sports like paddle surfing, kayaks or pedalos. We also find designated areas for sports activities, like beach volleyball, which always livens up the atmosphere. For the little ones, the children's area near the resort offers playgrounds and entertainment, complementing the fun in the sand and water. The proximity of shops and supermarkets in the Son Bou resort ensures that any need can be quickly met.
