It is not a virgin and inaccessible beach, but neither is it overcrowded or overexploited. In our opinion, it is an ideal balance for those seeking to enjoy the Mediterranean Sea in a relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere.

From the moment we set foot on its sand, we understand why Playa de Sa Mesquida is so beloved by locals and visitors. Its intense blue waters and fine golden sand invite us to disconnect and immerse ourselves in the tranquility that only Menorca can offer. It is a place where time seems to stand still, where the sound of the waves becomes the only soundtrack and where the stress of everyday life dissipates with each sea breeze. How to get to Playa de Sa Mesquida

Getting to Playa de Sa Mesquida is relatively easy, which contributes to its popularity, especially among families. If we are coming from Mahón, the drive takes only about 10-15 minutes. We must take the road heading north towards Es Grau and, before reaching the latter, we will find a signposted turnoff towards Sa Mesquida. The road is paved and in good condition, which facilitates access.

Once we arrive at the beach area, we will find a fairly large and free parking lot. It is important to note that during the high season months (July and August), this parking lot can fill up quickly, especially mid-morning. Our recommendation is to arrive early to secure a good spot. From the parking lot, there is a short walk of a few minutes along a well-maintained path to the sand. It is not a difficult path, so it is suitable for strollers and people with reduced mobility (although the beach itself does not have full wheelchair accessibility).

As for public transport, the options are more limited. During the summer months, there is usually a bus service connecting Mahón with Sa Mesquida, although the frequency is not very high. We always advise checking the updated schedules before planning the visit. However, for us, the most comfortable and flexible way to explore the area and its surroundings remains a rental car, which allows us to move at our own pace and discover other corners near this wonderful beach in Mahón.

The sand and the water

Playa de Sa Mesquida wins us over from the first moment with its sand. It is predominantly fine and of a soft golden color, a delight for walking barefoot and for the little ones to build their sandcastles. The type of ground is clearly sand, which makes it very comfortable and pleasant for spending the day. We will not find rocks or pebbles in the main bathing area, which is a plus for comfort.

But if the sand is charming, the water is simply spectacular. The waters of Sa Mesquida are crystal clear and of an intense turquoise color that invites you to dive in. The entrance to the sea is very gentle and gradual, making it an ideal beach for children and for those who are not comfortable with sudden depths. The water temperature, especially in summer, is very pleasant, perfect for long swims. Furthermore, as it faces northeast and is protected by the cliffs of Cap Roig, it is usually quite sheltered from the westerly wind, which guarantees a calm sea most days. It is a true pleasure to swim in these calm and transparent waters, where we can often see the seabed without the need for diving goggles.

Services and facilities

Although Playa de Sa Mesquida maintains a natural character, it is not devoid of essential services that make our stay more comfortable. The most notable is, without a doubt, the chiringuito that usually operates during the high season. This offers us refreshing drinks, ice creams and some simple food options, ideal for not having to leave the beach at mealtime. It is a perfect place to enjoy an aperitif with sea views.

In addition to the chiringuito, the beach has lifeguards during the summer months, which gives us additional peace of mind, especially if we are with children. We also have basic bathrooms/WC near the chiringuito, a much-appreciated service. Sometimes, the chiringuito itself offers umbrella and sunbed rentals, which can be very practical if we don't want to carry our own equipment. However, we should not expect a large number of services like full showers or permanent sports areas. Sa Mesquida prioritizes its natural beauty over massive infrastructure, something we greatly value. The free parking, as we already mentioned, is another key point that facilitates the visit to this beautiful beach in Mahón.

Best time to visit

For us, the best time to visit Playa de Sa Mesquida and, in general, Menorca, is during the months of late May, June and September. During these periods, the weather is exquisite, with pleasant temperatures that invite swimming and sunbathing, but without the stifling heat that sometimes accompanies the height of summer. The waters are already warm enough to fully enjoy, and most importantly, the influx of tourists is considerably lower than in July and August.

Visiting Sa Mesquida in June or September allows us to enjoy the beach with a tranquility that is hard to find in August. The parking lot is not as saturated, the chiringuito
