How to Get to Playa de Sa Canova

Getting to Playa de Sa Canova is part of the adventure and rewards us with its pristine character. It is located on the northeast coast of Mallorca, within the municipal area of Artà. Access is generally by car. From Artà, we can take the MA-12 road towards Can Picafort or Colònia de Sant Pere. We will look for signposted turn-offs towards the beach or the parking areas, which, although they are dirt and not paved, are usually sufficient for the number of visitors. We always recommend consulting an updated map or GPS, as the signage can be discreet, which helps maintain its natural and less crowded charm. The final stretch of the road can be a bit rough, but the reward upon arrival is unmatched.

The Sand and Water

Playa de Sa Canova captivates us immediately with its extensive stretch of fine, golden sand, which extends for approximately one and a half kilometers. It is a soft sand to the touch, perfect for walking barefoot or for children to play building sandcastles. However, we mention that, due to its virgin nature and sea currents, it is common to find remains of Posidonia oceanica on the shore. Far from being an inconvenience, these deposits are an indicator of the excellent water quality and the good state of conservation of the marine ecosystem, acting as a natural filter and protecting the coast from erosion. We highly value this characteristic, as it speaks of a living and healthy beach.

The waters of Sa Canova are, in general, crystal clear and of a turquoise blue that invites a swim. The entry into the sea is usually gentle and shallow in many sections, making it pleasant for a refreshing dip. However, being an open and somewhat exposed beach, on windy or rough days, the waves can be more pronounced. We always recommend caution and common sense when enjoying its waters. However, during the summer months, it is common to find one or two chiringuitos, often temporary, offering refreshing drinks, ice creams, and some simple food options. These establishments usually integrate discreetly into the landscape, allowing us to enjoy a snack without breaking the magic of the surroundings. The parking is on dirt and not organized, but there is usually enough space for vehicles. It is essential that, when visiting Sa Canova, we are aware of the importance of being respectful of the environment, taking all our rubbish with us and leaving the beach exactly as we found it, thus preserving its virgin state for everyone's enjoyment.

Best Time to Visit

We believe each season has its particular charm for visiting Playa de Sa Canova, but if we had to choose the best time, we would probably opt for spring (April, May) and autumn (September, October). During these months, the climate in Mallorca is exceptionally pleasant: temperatures are mild, perfect for walking and enjoying the sun without the intense heat of summer. Furthermore, the influx of tourists is considerably lower, allowing us to experience the beach in its purest and most tranquil state, almost in solitude, enjoying an atmosphere of absolute relaxation.

Summer (June, July, August) is ideal for swimming enthusiasts, with warm water temperatures and long, sunny days. However, the beach, although it never gets as crowded as others, receives more visitors. If you are looking for sun and sea, summer is perfect, but if the priority is tranquility and connection with nature, spring and autumn are undoubtedly the best options. Even in winter, if weather conditions permit, a walk along Sa Canova can be a revitalizing experience, with the beach offering a dramatic and powerful landscape.
