How to Get to Cala Presili (Capifort)

The access to Cala Presili (Capifort) is part of its charm and, at the same time, its exclusivity. This is not one of those beaches you can drive directly to, which contributes to its pristine and tranquil atmosphere. There are mainly two routes to reach it, both involve a walk, which is an adventure in itself and an excellent opportunity to enjoy the landscape of the s'Albufera des Grau Natural Park.

Route from Favàritx Lighthouse

This is perhaps the most popular route, albeit with certain restrictions during the high season. During the summer months (approximately from June to October), private vehicle access to the Favàritx lighthouse area is restricted. To get there, we must use a shuttle bus that departs from Mahón or from the Es Grau area. Once at the lighthouse parking lot (or after getting off the bus), the walk to Cala Presili is relatively short and easy, about 15-20 minutes. The trail, part of the famous Camí de Cavalls, winds through a lunar and arid landscape, with spectacular views of the lighthouse and the sea. It's a walk of about 1.5 to 2 kilometers, ideal for wearing comfortable shoes and carrying water, especially on hot days.

Route from Es Grau

Another option, longer but equally rewarding, is to walk from the picturesque village of Es Grau. This route also follows the Camí de Cavalls and takes us through a greener, more forested section of the natural park. The distance is greater, approximately 4-5 kilometers, which translates into a walk of about 1 hour to 1 hour and 30 minutes, depending on our pace. This option is perfect for hiking lovers who wish to explore the park's biodiversity more thoroughly before reaching the beach. The path is well signposted, but it's important to carry enough water and sun protection. The parking in Es Grau is more accessible, making it a good alternative if we prefer not to rely on the shuttle bus.

Regardless of the route we choose, the reward upon reaching Cala Presili (Capifort) is immense. The feeling of having 'earned' access to this natural paradise adds immeasurable value to the experience. We always remember the importance of respecting the environment, taking all our trash with us and leaving the beach as we found it.

The Sand and Water

Stepping onto the sand of Cala Presili (Capifort), we immediately notice its most distinctive characteristic: a fine, soft sand, of a pale golden color that contrasts wonderfully with the turquoise blue of the sea. It is a sand of siliceous origin, which gives it that pleasant texture to the touch and that particular shine under the Menorcan sun. It's the kind of sand that invites you to spread out a towel and simply relax, letting the grains slip through your fingers.

The type of beach soil is predominantly sandy, which facilitates access and comfort when walking. We won't find rocks or pebbles on the shore, although at the ends of the cove and in the surrounding areas, rocky formations do appear, adding character to the landscape and being ideal for exploring or finding a more secluded spot.

But if the sand is a delight, the waters of Cala Presili (Capifort) are, without exaggeration, spectacular. Their transparency is astonishing, allowing us to see the seabed with exceptional clarity. The color varies from an intense blue in the distance to a vibrant turquoise near the shore, a visual spectacle that irresistibly invites a swim. These waters are also notably calm, protected from currents and strong waves by the shape of the cove and its orientation.

The entry into the sea is very gentle and gradual, making it ideal for all visitors, including the little ones. We can wade in several meters and the water will barely cover us, creating a perfect natural pool for splashing and enjoying without worries. The water temperature, especially in the summer months, is pleasantly warm, allowing for long periods immersed, exploring its biodiversity or simply being rocked by its gentle waves. The combination of fine sand and serene, crystal-clear waters is, without a doubt, one of the greatest attractions of this wonderful beach in Mahón.
