How to Get to Cala Molí

Getting to Cala Molí is part of the adventure and, fortunately, it is quite simple if we know how. This cove is located on the west coast of Ibiza, between Cala Tarida and Cala Vadella, in the municipal area of San José. We always recommend renting a car or a motorbike to get around Ibiza, as it gives us the freedom to explore at our own pace and discover less accessible coves. From San José, the journey by car takes just 10-15 minutes following the signs to Cala Tarida and then turning off towards Cala Molí. The signs are present, but sometimes you have to pay attention not to miss the turn-off.

By Car

If you choose the car, the most common route is from the town of San José. You should take the PM-803 road towards Cala Tarida. After a few kilometers, you will find a signposted turn-off towards Cala Molí. The final access to the cove is via a road with some slopes, but in good condition. Once there, you will find a free parking area, although we must warn you that in high season (July and August), this parking lot can fill up quickly. Our suggestion is to arrive early to secure a good spot and avoid frustration. It is not a huge parking lot, but it is sufficient for the capacity of the cove. The advantage of going by car is that you can then explore other nearby coves or the interior of the island.

By Motorbike or Scooter

For many, the motorbike or scooter is the ideal way to get around Ibiza, especially if you are a couple or a small group. They allow you to avoid traffic and find parking more easily. The road to Cala Molí is perfect for a motorbike, with gentle curves and pleasant landscapes. Furthermore, fuel consumption is lower, which is always a plus. You will have the same freedom as with a car, but with the extra agility that only a motorbike can offer on the island's secondary roads. It is a very popular option among young visitors and those seeking a touch of adventure in their travel.

Public Transport

Regarding public transport, we must be honest: accessibility to Cala Molí is limited. There is no direct bus line that reaches the cove itself. Bus lines usually stop at the larger, more central beaches, such as Cala Tarida or Cala Vadella. From there, you would have to take a taxi or walk a considerable distance, which is not the most comfortable under the Ibizan sun. Therefore, our main recommendation is a private vehicle. If you still prefer public transport, check the timetables for the lines going to Cala Tarida or Cala Vadella and plan from there. The option of a taxi from San José or San Antonio is viable, but the cost can be high if you use it frequently.

The Sand and the Water

The experience at Cala Molí begins long before diving into its waters. Upon arrival, the first thing we notice is the particularity of its shore. Unlike other Balearic beaches with very fine sand, Cala Molí features mixed sand, a combination of coarse sand and small pebbles or stones. This gives it a unique feel underfoot and a wilder, more natural appearance. While it may not be the ideal beach for building sandcastles with young children, it is perfect for those who appreciate the authenticity of a minimally developed environment.

Once we approach the sea, the true magic of Cala Molí is revealed. Its waters are simply spectacular. Of astonishing clarity, they allow us to see the seabed with a sharpness that invites exploration. The shades vary from bright turquoise in the shallower areas to deep blue beyond the shore. This transparency is largely due to the nature of its type of soil: mostly rock and gravel, with some sandy areas. This prevents sediment from being easily stirred up, keeping the water crystal clear.

A Snorkeling Paradise

Precisely, the presence of rocks and the clarity of the water make Cala Molí a true paradise for snorkeling lovers. We always bring our masks and snorkels when we visit this cove. Just a few meters from the shore, you can discover a vibrant underwater ecosystem: small colorful fish, starfish, anemones, and rock formations that serve as shelter for marine fauna. It is an activity we highly recommend, both for beginners and experienced divers. The experience of floating over this underwater world is, for us, one of the great attractions of this cove.
