Introduction
If there is a place in Menorca that encapsulates the essence of virgin beauty and the most absolute tranquility, that is, without a doubt, Cala Mitjaneta. It is not just a beach, it is an experience, a whisper from nature that invites us to completely disconnect. Located on the south coast of the island, very close to its bigger sister, the well-known Cala Mitjana, this small jewel is, for us, the epitome of what we look for when we think of a paradisiacal cove barely touched by human hands. Its tiny size, its unreal turquoise waters, and its very white sand make it a magical, almost secret corner that takes our breath away with every visit.
When we arrive at Cala Mitjaneta, the first impression is that of having discovered a hidden treasure. It is a cove that reveals itself little by little, after a path that already hints at the reward. We find a tiny inlet, embraced by limestone cliffs covered with pine trees that overlook the sea, projecting shadows that give even more depth to the colors of the water. It is the perfect place for those who, like us, value calm, intimacy, and natural beauty above all else. Here, time seems to stand still, and the only sound that accompanies us is the soft murmur of the waves breaking on the shore and the occasional song of seabirds. It is a living postcard, a canvas of blues and greens that blend with the immaculate white of its sand, inviting us to immerse ourselves in its waters and let the magic of Menorca completely envelop us.
We love recommending Cala Mitjaneta to those travelers seeking an authentic and memorable experience, away from the bustle of the busier beaches. It is the kind of place that makes us feel privileged to be able to contemplate it, a reminder of the fragility and immensity of nature. If you are planning an escape to Menorca and dream of finding that idyllic corner where the sea and land unite in perfect harmony, allow us to tell you that Cala Mitjaneta should be at the very top of your list. Prepare for an adventure that will take you to one of the most impressive landscapes on the island, a place where every moment becomes an unforgettable memory.
How to get to Cala Mitjaneta
Getting to Cala Mitjaneta is part of the adventure and requires a small dose of effort, but we assure you that every step will be worth it. Being a virgin cove without direct services, it does not have vehicle access right to the shore. The most common route and the one we always recommend starts at the parking lot of its bigger sister, the well-known Cala Mitjana, located in the municipality of Ferreries.
Access from Cala Mitjana
To get to the Cala Mitjana parking lot, you must take the ME-22 road from the town of Ferreries in the direction of Cala Galdana. Before reaching Cala Galdana, you will find clear signage indicating the turnoff towards Cala Mitjana. The road is paved and will take you directly to a large free parking lot, although in high season (especially in July and August) it can fill up easily, so we advise you to arrive early in the morning to secure a spot. From this parking lot, the real path to paradise begins.
Once the car is parked, you will start a pleasant 15-20 minute walk on a well-signposted and prepared path that runs through pine trees and Mediterranean vegetation. This path will lead you directly to Cala Mitjana. It is a relatively easy path, suitable for most people, although it is advisable to wear comfortable, closed shoes, not flip-flops, to avoid slipping and protect your feet.
The last stretch to Cala Mitjaneta
Once at Cala Mitjana, to reach the tiny Cala Mitjaneta, you have two main options, both charming:
- On foot (Camí de Cavalls): The most common option and the one we prefer to appreciate the landscape. From the shore of Cala Mitjana, if you look towards the east (to your right as you arrive at the sea), you will see a small path that ascends slightly along the cliff. This is a section of the famous Camí de Cavalls, the historic trail that goes around all of Menorca. Follow this trail for about 5-10 minutes, and it will take you directly to Cala Mitjaneta. The path is narrow and in some spots may have some minor difficulty, with roots or rocks, but nothing that cannot be overcome with a little caution. The views during this short journey are spectacular and will prepare you for the beauty that awaits.
- Swimming: For the more adventurous and on days with calm seas, it is possible to swim from Cala Mitjana to Cala Mitjaneta. The distance is short, a few hundred meters, but you must always assess your abilities and sea conditions before choosing this route. It is an incredible way to arrive and see the landscape from a different perspective, but it is not the most advisable if you are carrying a lot of luggage or are not experienced swimmers.
Public transport and other considerations
During the high season, there is a bus service connecting Ferreries and Ciutadella with Cala Galdana. From Cala Galdana, you could consider a taxi to the Cala Mitjana parking lot, or, if you are lovers of walking, undertake a longer route along the Camí de Cavalls from Cala Galdana (which would take more time, approximately an additional 45-60 minutes to Cala Mitjana). However, to get to Cala Mitjaneta, the private car and the subsequent walk from the Cala Mitjana parking lot remains the most practical and direct option for most visitors.
Remember to bring enough water, sun protection, a hat, and your camera. As there are no services at the cove, it is essential to go prepared with everything
