How to Get to Cala Jondal

Getting to Cala Jondal is relatively straightforward, although as with many corners of Ibiza, having your own means of transport will give you more freedom. The beach is about 15-20 minutes by car from Ibiza town and about 10-15 minutes from the village of San José, following the PM-802 road towards Sa Caleta and then taking the well-signposted turnoffs towards the cove. The route is scenic, winding through pines and fields, which prepares us for the beauty that awaits.

By Car or Motorbike

This is the most popular and recommended option. From Ibiza town, we take the E-20 and then turn off towards Sant Jordi de ses Salines, following the signs to the airport and then to the southern beaches, like Sa Caleta and finally Cala Jondal. From San José, the route is more direct, following the main road south. At the beach, we will find several parking areas, some free and others paid, managed by the beach clubs themselves, especially busy during the high season months. We advise arriving early if we want to secure a good spot, especially in July and August.

By Taxi

The taxi is a comfortable, though more expensive, option. We can take a taxi from anywhere on the island. It is a good alternative if we don't want to worry about parking or if we plan to enjoy cocktails at the 'chiringuitos'. Make sure to have the number of a local taxi for the return trip, as during high season it can be difficult to find an available one at the cove itself.

By Bus

Public transport to Cala Jondal is limited and not as direct as to other island beaches. Generally, there is no bus line that goes directly to the sand. We would have to take a bus to San José or Sant Jordi and from there a taxi, or walk a considerable distance, which is not the most practical in the Ibizan heat. Therefore, for this particular beach, we recommend car, motorbike, or taxi for a more comfortable and efficient experience.

By Boat

For those seeking a truly spectacular entrance, arriving at Cala Jondal by boat is an unforgettable experience. The protected waters of the cove make it ideal for anchoring, and many visitors choose this route to enjoy the beach from a different perspective, or to access directly the beach clubs that offer 'dinghy' or zodiac service to pick up their clients from their private boats. It is a fantastic way to feel the luxury and exclusivity that characterize this Ibizan corner.

The Sand and the Water

The uniqueness of Cala Jondal lies, to a large extent, in its surface. Here, we will not find the fine, soft sand we often associate with Balearic beaches. Instead, we are greeted by an extensive stretch of polished pebbles, cobbles of various sizes that the sea has shaped over time. It is a different sensory experience, perhaps less conventional for some, but absolutely fascinating. Walking on them can feel a bit peculiar at first, so we recommend wearing suitable footwear, like water shoes or beach sandals, especially if we have sensitive feet. Once we get used to it, the feel of the pebbles under our feet becomes part of the cove's charm.

But the true magic of these pebbles is revealed in the water. The absence of fine sand on the shore means there are no suspended particles to cloud the sea. The result is astonishing clarity, waters that seem like crystal and allow us to see the seabed with impressive sharpness, even at several meters depth. The turquoise and aquamarine tones intensify under the sun, creating a visual spectacle that irresistibly invites a swim. It is a paradise for snorkeling and underwater photography lovers, as the visibility is exceptional.
