How to get to Cala Escorxada

Getting to Cala Escorxada beach is part of the adventure, and it is precisely this access that makes it such a well-preserved jewel. Do not expect to find a paved road to the shore or a large car park right by the beach. Cala Escorxada requires a small sacrifice in the form of a hike, but we assure you that every step will be worth it. There are mainly two routes to reach this paradise, both via sections of the famous Camí de Cavalls, a historic trail that goes around the entire island of Menorca.

Route from Sant Tomàs

One of the most popular and, perhaps, the most direct options is to start the hike from the Sant Tomàs urbanization. Here we can leave our vehicle in the designated parking areas. From Sant Tomàs, we must head west, following the Camí de Cavalls trail. The route will take us through a coastal landscape of great beauty, passing first by the charming Binigaus beach. After Binigaus, the path enters a pine forest and becomes a bit more demanding, with some uphill and downhill sections. The estimated duration of this hike is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes, depending on our pace. It is a journey of about 4-5 kilometers under the sun, so it is crucial to carry enough water, sun protection, and appropriate footwear, preferably trekking shoes or sturdy sandals, and to avoid flip-flops. The landscapes along the way are spectacular, offering panoramic views of the Mediterranean that will encourage us to keep going.

Route from Cala Mitjana / Cala Galdana

Another alternative, although somewhat longer, is to start from the vicinity of Cala Mitjana, where there are also parking areas (although the Cala Mitjana car park can fill up quickly in high season). From here, the path is longer, passing by several virgin coves like Cala Trebalúger and Cala Fustam before reaching Cala Escorxada. This route can take between 1 hour and 45 minutes and 2 hours, being a more suitable option for hiking enthusiasts who want to explore the south coast more thoroughly. Both routes immerse us in Mediterranean vegetation, with the sea always present as a backdrop. For those who prefer a more comfortable option, and provided sea conditions allow, it is also possible to reach Cala Escorxada by boat, either privately or through organized excursions that anchor near the cove, allowing direct access to its crystal clear waters. Whichever the choice, anticipation and preparation are key to fully enjoying the experience.

The sand and the water

Once we have completed the hike and glimpsed Cala Escorxada from the height, the first impression is simply breathtaking. We are faced with a beach of plastic beauty, where the sand and water are the undisputed protagonists. The sand of Cala Escorxada is a dazzling white, extremely fine and soft to the touch, making it perfect for walking barefoot or simply lying down to sunbathe. It is sand that does not stick excessively and, by reflecting the sunlight, further intensifies the shine of the adjacent waters.

The waters are, without a doubt, the crown jewel of this beach in Es Migjorn Gran. Their transparency is such that we can see the seabed with astonishing clarity, even at several meters depth. The color ranges from an intense turquoise blue to an emerald green, creating a gradient of tones that irresistibly invites a swim. They are generally very calm and shallow waters at the shore, making them an ideal place to cool off and relax. The absence of strong currents and the natural protection of the cove make swimming here a very pleasant experience. For snorkeling lovers, the rocky bottom on the sides of the cove, combined with the clarity of the water, offers a fascinating underwater spectacle, where we can observe various species of fish and marine flora in their natural habitat. It is a true open-air aquarium that invites us to explore its underwater corners.
