How to Get to Playa de Verdicio (Tenrero)

Getting to Playa de Verdicio (Tenrero) is part of the adventure and, fortunately, quite straightforward. Located in the council of Gozón, its main access is by road. If we're coming from Gijón, the journey takes approximately 25-30 minutes, taking the AS-19 and then turning off towards the Cabo Peñas area. From Oviedo, the trip is a bit longer, around 40-45 minutes, passing through Avilés or Gijón.

Access by Car

We always recommend the car as the most comfortable option to get to this beach, as it gives us the freedom to explore the surroundings. Once nearby, the signage towards Verdicio is clear. The road takes us directly to the vicinity of the beach, where we find a parking area that, although not excessively large, usually has spaces available outside of peak summer days. It's important to arrive early in the high season if we want to secure a good spot.

Public Transport

Public transport to get directly to the beach is more limited. There are bus lines connecting Gijón and Avilés with Luanco, the capital of Gozón. From Luanco, we could consider a taxi or even a walk (although it's a long journey and not highly recommended under the sun) to get to Playa de Verdicio. Our experience tells us that, to fully enjoy the area, a private vehicle is almost essential.

The Sand and Water

Playa de Verdicio (Tenrero) wins us over from the first moment with the quality of its sand. Here, the sand is fine and golden, a delight for our feet. It's perfect for walking barefoot, building sandcastles with the little ones, or simply spreading out our towel and feeling the warmth under the sun. We love the soft, clean feel of this sand, which invites relaxation and carefree enjoyment.

As for the water, Verdicio's waters are typically Cantabrian waters: cool, crystal clear, and with a color ranging from deep blue to emerald green, depending on the daylight and sea conditions. Generally, they are calm waters, especially on good weather days, making it a safe beach for swimming. However, as with any beach on the Cantabrian coast, it's always prudent to be aware of currents and lifeguard signage. The feeling of immersing ourselves in these clean, revitalizing waters is one of the greatest rewards of our visit.

• Showers: After a refreshing dip in the Cantabrian Sea, it's always a pleasure to be able to rinse off the salt and sand with the available showers. A small detail that makes a big difference.
• Parking: As mentioned earlier, there is a parking area near the beach, facilitating access for those of us coming by car.
• Chiringuitos: During the season, there is usually a chiringuito or nearby establishment where we can have a drink, an ice cream, or even a snack. It's ideal for not having to go too far from the sand when we fancy a bite.

Best Time to Visit

For us, Playa de Verdicio (Tenrero) is a destination to be enjoyed at different times of the year, although each offers a different experience. Choosing the right time will depend on what we're looking for in our visit.

Summer (June, July, August)

Undoubtedly, summer is the most popular time to visit Verdicio. Temperatures are warmer, the waters are at their most pleasant for swimming, and all services (lifeguards, chiringuitos) are operational. It's ideal for enjoying the sun and beach at their best. However, it's also when the beach receives the most visitors.
