We've been so eager to tell you about Playa de Salinas de Luarca! For us, it's one of those Asturian corners that captivates you from the very first moment. Located in the beautiful municipality of Valdés, very close to the emblematic 'White Town' of Luarca, this beach offers a perfect combination of accessibility, services, and a natural beauty that invites relaxation and enjoyment. It's not the largest beach in Asturias, but its charm lies precisely in that intimacy and the feeling of being in a special place where time seems to stand still.

When we think of Playa de Salinas (Luarca), an image of tranquility comes to mind. It's a sheltered sandy beach, with waters that are usually calmer than in other beaches of the Cantabrian Sea, making it an ideal destination for families with children and for those seeking a haven of peace. The surroundings are simply spectacular, with cliffs embracing it and lush vegetation giving it a very Asturian feel. It's one of those Valdés beaches that, once you know it, you always want to visit again. We love it for its relaxed atmosphere and the ease with which one can disconnect from routine.

How to Get to Playa de Salinas (Luarca)

Getting to Playa de Salinas (Luarca) is relatively easy, which adds to its appeal. If you're coming by car, the best option is to take the A-8 (Cantabrian Motorway) and exit at the sign for Luarca. Once in the town, there are signs that will guide you without any problem to the beach. The journey from Luarca is short and very pleasant, passing through typical rural landscapes of the area.

By Car

• From Oviedo: Approximately one hour by car via the A-8.
• From Gijón: Also about one hour via the A-8.
• From the center of Luarca: Just about 5 minutes by car. There is a parking lot, although of moderate size, which tends to fill up in high season. Our recommendation is to arrive early if you visit in summer to secure a good spot.

Public Transport

There is the possibility of arriving by train (FEVE) to Luarca and, from there, taking a taxi or, if you feel like it, taking a pleasant 20-25 minute walk to the beach. There are also some bus lines connecting Luarca with other towns, but to get specifically to the beach, car or taxi are the most practical and direct options.

The Sand and Water

Playa de Salinas (Luarca) captivates us with its sand. It's a soft golden color, very fine and pleasant to the touch, perfect for walking barefoot or for the little ones to build their sandcastles without difficulty. Unlike other more rocky beaches of the Cantabrian Sea, sand predominates in the bathing area here, making it very comfortable and safe for everyone.

The waters are generally quite calm. Being in a cove protected by cliffs, the waves are usually moderate, making it an ideal place for a relaxing swim. The water temperature, as is usual in the Cantabrian Sea, is cool, but very inviting on sunny summer days. The water quality is good, and its clarity invites you to dive in and enjoy a dip. We think it's a perfect place to start snorkeling on calm days, exploring the small rocks that emerge at the ends of the beach where marine life finds its refuge.

Services and Facilities

Although Playa de Salinas (Luarca) maintains a natural atmosphere, it doesn't lack the essential services that make the stay more comfortable and pleasant. We highly value that, despite its size, it has what's necessary for a worry-free day at the beach.

Among the services you'll find, the following stand out:

• Showers: Essential for washing off sand and salt after a good swim.
• Parking: As already mentioned, there is a parking area near the beach, although it can be limited during peak times.
• Chiringuitos: In high season, one or two beach bars are usually set up where you can get a cool drink, have a snack, or even eat. They're perfect for enjoying an aperitif with sea views.
• Lifeguard Service: During the bathing season (usually from June to September), the beach has lifeguard service, which gives us great peace of mind, especially if we're with children.
• Restrooms/WC: It has public toilets, a basic but much appreciated service.

Best Time to Visit

For us, the best time to visit Playa de Salinas (Luarca) is, without a doubt, summer. From late June to early September, the Asturian climate is usually milder, with pleasant temperatures and more hours of sunshine. It's when the sea is warmest (within the Cantabrian Sea's standards) and when all the beach services are operational, including lifeguards and chiringuitos.

However, if you prefer to avoid the crowds and enjoy even greater tranquility, spring and early autumn are wonderful options. The landscapes during these times are spectacular, with the green vegetation in all its splendor and perfect light for photography. Although swimming may be colder, walks along the shore are a delight. We've visited Playa de Salinas (Luarca) in autumn and the feeling of peace is unmatched, with the sound of the waves as the only company. It's an ideal time for photography lovers and for those seeking total disconnection.
